Needless to say, the Horseman camp wasn't there. And no indication that it ever had been. The village they had just burned to the ground two suns ago also wasn't there. Even Methos knew the desert could not have reclaimed the land so fast.
He has not seen a single living thing for enough suns that he's lost track. Lack of water and food, combined with the searing heat and blinding winds, have taken his life more than once. But always, he has awoken again, dug himself from the sands, and continued onwards.
The desert sands at last give way to craggy ground, and the Horseman catches the faint tang of the sea on the air. This water will provide no respite for his thirst, he knows, but it is as good a destination as any.
