Jean's sitting out near the Kraken pond, shucking ears of corn that were transported in by someone's recent trip away from the farm. It's a simple task, but she finds those are often the ones the keep her grounded here.
The universe is upside down again, in all the not so normal ways that make it normal. She's wondering where the Scott, who isn't her Scott, has vanished off to, but she doesn't let herself think of that even when she knows it doesn't pass. It has to do with her, she knows that, too, even though she puts it away.
Strip the outer layer, then the corn silk, run her hand across the solid, sweet-smelling kernels, toss the cob into the deep bowl between her feet. Then start again.
