Sometime before Dean, Jo and Jack left the farm, he spent a lot of time working on the Impala. Baby didn't like the rough country roads, could use some tuning.

Anyone can catch him there, sprawled under the car in the front yard with his feet sticking out and a handful of tools scattered within reach.

Sokka might like Dean's car, just a little.

Dean slides out from under it -- and grins.

Hey, this kid's all right.

"'67 Chevy Impala, kid." Big grin. "She's mine, yeah. Like it?"

"Hell, yes. Where do you get fuel for an engine that size? How are you even getting around in here? My jeep gets the shit beat out of it every time we hit a dirt road!"

Sokka may have found his new best friend.

Her name is Impala.

Dean can't help it if his car is the hottest thing on wheels in the entire apocalypse. He grins, leaning back against her and patting the bonnet fondly.

"Met some kid with a magic wand. Honest-to-God, a freakin' magic wand, dude. She runs on magic now."

Which gets a little nose-wrinkle, but, well, it works so far. And he keeps a couple tanks of fuel in the back for when it stops.

Sokka stares. Quite a lot.



"You are shitting me. So you don't need fuel at all?" Sokka thinks the Impala is the hottest thing ever.

...just don't tell his girlfriend.

...ever.

"Where is this kid and when can you send him here?"

Dean laughs. "Hell, I dunno. New York, I think. Kid turns into a dog, you'll know him if y'see him.

"'M Dean, by the way." Greasy hand held out.

...see Sokka deflate, all deflatedly. "Aw man, really? I can't go hunting down a dog to get rid of fuel, my sister will kill me."

Oh yeah, hands. Grinning a little, greasy hand is taken and shook. "Sokka. Nice t'meet you."



"And the car."

Dean laughs. "She's a hell'v'a lot more impressive than I am, I'll give y'that. Wanna check her out?" He waves at the open hood.

"You serious?"

The answer to this would be a: HELL YES, but Sokka delivers it in the form of a grin as he comes closer to lean over the hood and inspect.

Sokka is young, probably only about seventeen, tall but not especially broad, nothing special to look at while he's wearing a shirt, even the scars on his face and neck aren't much when paired with the spiky haircut of any kid from the 21st century.

"Oh wow... hey, y'know, if you're having a hard time with the suspension on these roads, you should try connecting a couple of these plugs. You don't need them on paved roads, but they helps a lot when it comes to all the jostling around. You're getting the body lifted, right? There's loads of debris everywhere, you're gonna get your undercarriage completely messed up if you leave her low like this for much longer. And hey, have you thought about..."

It doesn't take long, but Sokka eventually proves to people that he's no ordinary kid.

"Are you kiddin'? She does fine, and she's stayin' low ..."

Dean blinks at him, and laughs.

"A'ight, I might look into it."

He notably does not ask Sokka to help -- but he's a little protective of his baby.

"Not really an issue. See, kid with the magic? Taught her to fly. I just don't, much, y'know. Where's th'point in drivin' if you ain't on th'road?"

"Which is why I got mine lifted," Sokka replies, but he's laughing when he straightens. "I guess that makes sense, though, charming it. Are you on water a lot?"

"Nah, but I'm not usually on the road much either." He waves a hand. "M'brother and I go where we gotta. Bein' charmed is a'ight, but kinda annoying."

He didn't know Sirius was going to make it fly and he's not sure he liked it. Sure, it's useful. He's still just, y'know, not sure he likes it.

Sokka would make fun of him, but he's too enchanted with the car to figure out why flying is so annoying for Dean.

So Sokka keeps grinning.

"Your brother's here, too? Man, it's always nice when the universe stops sucking long enough t'keep families together. You're new, right? --holy shit, this is the original engine, isn't it?! And '67 was like ages ago for you, right? Oh man, wow."

Some of the amusement is gone from his face, at that, but he gives Sokka an easy smile anyway. It's helped by the praise for the Imp.

"Yeah, 'bout forty years. She's m'baby." Comforting pat to the bonnet. "And yeah. Just a few weeks. Y'say that like you're a veteran."

A small snort is Sokka's reaction to that, shrugging. "Not to this place, but to world hopping, yeah. It was nice this time, brought me, my sister, her kids, and my best friend. Sometimes it really fucks you over, though."

"Yeah? How so?"

This is the intent look. Sokka can ogle the engine; Dean is frowning thoughtfully at him. Potential source of information! The kind of information he hasn't been able to get from anyone so far.

Sokka shrugs again, circling the car to look at the body work. "It splits families up, friends. This is my fourth world, including my birth one."

When he reaches the front of the car again, he looks up at Dean - and his smile is a little pitying. He knows that look.

"I don't know anything about this world. I've only been here a month or so. I've just gotten tossed around for a while."

He can take his pity and shove it where the sun don't shine.

"Hm," Dean says, leaning down to adjust a plug.

"Ever wound up with ... alternate versions of y'self?"

Sokka isn't sneering - that would be rude. Or at least, he isn't admitting to sneering.

"Yeah. I have two."

"Surprisingly hot, actually," Dean says thoughtfully. "Great rack. Looks like she'd know which side to butter her bread on, if y'know what I mean."

He doesn't, not even slightly, but since Sokka's next question was going to be 'is she hot?', he's not going to argue.

He's going to grin and pretend like he wasn't going to ask that.

"Cool that you get on with each other all right."

"Well, uh." Dean rubs the back of his neck. "Depends. We talked th'once or twice."

Then he got the hell outta Dodge.

"Yeah, well, mine hates me and I'm dating his girlfriend's best friend.
