It took about twenty minutes of being home for Jo to find first Rachel's note on her table and then to get from someone else down the street that Dean's gone.
Jo was still letting out a muttered stream of obscenities as she made it back to her house.
Then, walking into her house, throwing the door wide so it slammed on the wall as she went for her bag, throwing things in it, she screamed, "JACK!"

Anyway, now he's in the hallway. "I'm here."
no subject
"I'm leaving. Now. I'm fucking tired of this waiting around and nothing happening. You can come or can stay the hell here."
She's also gesturing through this with the biretta that hasn't made into the bag yet.

"Where?"

no subject
"Now is good for me."
He won't ask until Jo wants to be asked.

Gone on business. Back whenever I'm done.
Followed by a frequency number to her travel communicator from Oracle and instructions on how to use the radio downstairs. She had little faith (and little patience presently) with think Ai Ling would know how a radio worked so the instructions were specific.
She turned back around after dropping it, giving the house only one look and then walked back out the door.

"I think she was not happy you left last time," he says as he follows Jo. Just as a heads up.
no subject
She hadn't asked or said anything about it to her.
The bag got tossed inside, before she looked over the car, frown still there. "Unless you think we should bring her with us."
no subject
That would be Ai-Ling, who is returning form out of town on a mission to keep herself from being bored?
"Will you be long?"
no subject
"Don't know. I got information about an old stop in my home world still standing here, wanted to check it out."
no subject
This is Ai-Ling hanging back a few metres away, looking from Jo to Jack (who is nice enough, but she doesn't like him like she likes Jo and Rachel and Dean).
She opens her mouth to ask to come along, then changes her mind.
"I hope you find it."
no subject
Except Dean.
"You want to go to the Cooper Farm," he tells Ai-Ling, quietly certain.

no subject
"The farm?" She looks to Jo. "Is Miki there?"
(But it's Jack who nods and says 'Aye')
no subject
She gave a shrug. "Check it out. You might like it. At least it'll give you the lay of the land on the other group in the area?"
no subject
"I might see you when I get back, but have a great time!"
no subject
"Yeah. You, too." Jo pulled a door open and slipped inside the Caroline.

He grins after her as she rushes inside, and shakes hi head as he starts up the truck.
"She needs not protection."
no subject
"Mind reader?"
no subject
"I see the Truth. It's exterior, not an invasion."
no subject
"How?"
no subject
Jack shrugs, and gives a small snort. "Part gift, part knowing how to look. I told you not because I feared reaction."
no subject
"Would the expected response be to try to kill you now or to run away screaming?"
no subject
"Thought I you'd run and scream I wouldn't be here still."
no subject
"Nice to see I live up to your expectations pre-established by my brain through yours."
She watched the road a little, but not really. Kansas was not the most exciting world especially once one had lived and traveled in it during the last weeks.
no subject
It'll do, as an explanation.
"Keeping secrets becomes a habit."
no subject
"Anything else that I would consider pertinently need to know?"
no subject
"Mayhap the name my parents gave me."
no subject
"It can't be much worse than mine."
no subject
He clears his throat, and his voice changes subtly as an act drops.
"It's Ruth."
no subject
Not...well, girlish.
Jo's eyes dropped a few inches and came back up, across his body, his loose clothing, confused but following his words.
The sentence was the same, even though the tone was different, more confused and curious. "It's still better than Joanna Beth."
no subject
"Joanna-Beth is charming."
no subject
The giggle is strange. But it still sounds like Jack...Ruth. Jack by his so far preference and was still easier.
"I'm thinking that pearl goes one of three ways. One, you're from a world where gendered names are utterly boinked from my worlds. Two, your parents had a horrid sense of humor from your birth and you managed to be awesome regardless of it. Three, it is what I think you just meant it to be."
no subject
"My world, women are all but forbidden from sailing. Bad luck, they'd say."
no subject
Her tone was smug as settling into her seat.
There is a little peripheral glancing as she settling things in her head. Cause there was Jack the guy she's been rather herself with both fighting and flirting, who's suddenly also Ruth the girl she's done all these things with.
Which isn't bad just different for this moment at least.
