galwonder: (evasive maneuvres)

(no subject)

There is a small fighter plane safe in the Hangar, and a masked vigilante going through training exercises of the farmhouse. This is a totally normal place for masked vigilantes, especially at times of twilight like this.

This one is trying not to look worried as she goes through backflip after backflip. getting back into the feel of having a body again. That's the easy part.

The hardest part is trying not to look panicked when she suddenly goes intangible and falls through the roof onto the ground by the house.

Ow.

He was caught by this universe about half a day after he fed. He's been here two days. The Kandrona generator is still not finished.

Adam has been assisting Steve in building it, but then he started to hinder the work more than help it. At his twelfth mistake, the inventor told him to go get some rest -- but it's not a lack of sleep that's driving him to distraction. He's hungry, in a bone-deep, sickening way that he'd prayed he'd never feel again.

So he's been reduced to wander around the farm in a fit of draining, restless energy, enduring Orlit's psychic taunts, working to squash his own rising fear, distracted from these things only by the -- falling girl?

What the--

"Hey," he calls anxiously, jogging towards her.

Terribly sorry, but the narration must protest this point. It would seem that there is something to see here, and that it comes in the shape of someone apparently falling off the roof. What would you even be doing on the roof?

"Are you all right?"

Not terribly original, perhaps, but as a question it's at least to the point.

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Adam appears unconvinced!

"Is that right."

And sounds unconvinced. And is, all-round, unconvinced.

(And tense, and restless, and trying to appear otherwise. By his side, the middle finger of his right hand taps unceasingly against his thumb.)

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you fall off all the time, then why do you keep going back up?"

He realises that he's tapping his finger, and makes the effort to still it. Which works for all of... three seconds?

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah. Well, he can relate to that. He has an idiotically brave streak as strong as the next man's; it's almost a shame that he's learned to suppress it for the sake of his life.

Besides, Sparrow looks pretty young. You're still allowed to do dumb stuff when you're young. So, after a second or two, a genuine smile appears on his face.

"Long as you haven't hurt yourself."

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, she's misjudged him. There's no satisfaction in seeing people get hurt.

(Unless they're Yeerks. But then they don't count as people, so.)

"Were you exercising?" he asks, glancing up at the black outline of the roof against the twilight sky. When you consider one or two of the people he's met here, that explanation doesn't seem so far-fetched.

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Curiously: "Isn't there a better place to do that than the roof?"

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh."

Well, Adam's not in the mood to argue with that. (Taptaptap.) It's not as though he doesn't have the time, but...

<You don't have the time,> Orlit tells him nastily.

Adam's features twitch, very briefly. <Be quiet. I didn't ask for your useless input.>

Aloud: "I'm Adam Weaver, by the way. Good to meet you."

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
What...? Oh. Oh, for heaven's sake. Is he going to have to start telling everyone he meets that he gets muscle spasms?

"I only arrived here two days ago," he tells her conversationally, hoping to keep the topic away from any remark to which he might give a suspicious answer. Doing his best to ignore Orlit's jibes, and determined not to think about the first vicious claws of the Fugue that he felt the first and last time he went three days without Kandrona radiation.

Adam looks faintly impressed. Months, in this asylum of a world?

"...Is it the kind of place you just get used to?"

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
A good-humoured snork.

"...You know, I hoped that wouldn't be the answer, but I sort of suspected that it would."

"Evils to defeat," he nods.

There always are.

Also, he heard about the flesh castle thing.

He's not entirely comfortable with being examined, though he does his best not to show it, meeting her gaze and stilling his tapping finger for the umpteenth time.

"I don't know if 'into it' is the right description." (Okay so maybe he gets a great deal of satisfaction from kicking Yeerk butt but that's not the point.) "If I see something wrong I'll try to make it right again. That's all anyone can do, really."

[identity profile] the-backfiring.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"It tends to find me without my help," he says, not sounding particularly happy about this fact.

He's noticed the costume, and guessed at what it means, but he's a little too distracted to be more than vaguely interested. Besides, he's already run across Val, and Steve has mentioned the surfuit of superheroes.
