Claire is on a mission. Well a number of missions. She has a plan, you see - or an idea that might be a plab, so she can maybe be more than one half of 'the pair of blonde baking girls.'

First she tries that new hospital, looking for grouchy old men with canes. Then she tries the kitchen of the farmhouse, looking for the ghost of her boyfriend's sister. Then she wanders around the farm randomly looking for that redhead in a wheelchair and/or that older guy who makes her blood run cold everytime she sees his face.

It's possible anyone could find her anywhere, of course.

He opens his eyes and nods cordially.

No other movement.

That's kinda weird. Claire just sits next to him.

"Is it definitely the same? What I can do and what you..." stole from some other person "...can?"

This gets a slight resettling so he's turned towards her slightly. Makes conversation easier.

"Yes," Gray responds simply, resting his hands in his lap.

No need to explain how he knows until she asks.

"OK," Claire says. "Cause I've been thinking about using it to help people around the farm, and I've never seen it work."

"The secondary effect, you mean. What did you want to know?"

"Well- what do I need to do?" Claire says. "And how does it work? I just give them my immune system?"

"A blood transfusion. The effect is as though they are borrowing your power temporarily. It lasts until any existing injuries are healed. No effect on scars."

"My 'power'?" Claire repeats, unimpressed.

"How does that work, on a biological level?"

"I'm not a scientist."

His understanding of the processes involved is intuitive, not theoretical.

In other words, it's Heroes pseudoscience. It doesn't work on a biological level.

Claire rolls her eyes.

"Well you're no help."

It's actually a good sign - she's not being mean, honest!

You'd need a microscope to find his smile, but the narration assures you it is present.

"I can tell you how it works functionally, but not academically. So I'm some help."

...and in some universes, that probably counted as a joke!

"And you never tried to figure it out?"

"I know. I just don't have the appropriate background to communicate that knowledge usefully."

Frown!

"Whatever."

She's going to realise she's joking with Sylar ANY SECOND NOW and it'll freak her the hell out.

"Indeed."

And this would be Gray, smiling slightly.

Joking is fun! It is a newly discovered and highly awesome pastime.
