Kate found a new ride today. There was a perfectly good motorbike just sitting around, and she found a helmet. She'll get them painted later but right now she was enjoying the flat open roads of Kansas.

-- Well, not painting. But the old farm bike Steph'd found runs like a dream after she let Sokka play with it for a few days, even if it still looks a little clunky.
Should Kate come upon another biker, it is entirely possible it will be Steph, helmet slung in the panniers and hair blowing in the wind. Safety regulations? Pfffft, those don't count if you're a superhero! ... right?

She pulled around, nodding to her, and braking to a halt easily.
"Hey."

Safety is for losers! ... and, you know, people with respect for their skulls. Steph is seventeen (or maybe eighteen, she's not sure, they kinda lost track of dates) and therefore her skull is immortal and she will last forever.
Teenagers.

However, that wasn't on her mind as she grinned back.
"Oh definitely."

This makes her thoughtful for a few seconds. Should she? But that would mean less hanging-out-with-babies time, not to mention the hanging-out-with-Sokka time. Problem!

She eyed her a little, "You don't miss it? I've been missing it since I got here."
no subject
As to whether she misses it or not ...
After a moment's serious thought, she shakes her head slowly. "You know, I don't. I mean, the excitement and adrenaline, I miss that, but ... I dunno. It's just ... nice to have a break."

Kate then asked, "You don't? Having the opportunity to help people? Protect them and keep them safe? I've been enjoying my time here, with Will, but... I feel guilty that I know there's people out there who need protection. And they need somebody to look out for them."
no subject
"I ... I guess the difference for me is that here ... my city's dead. And I have -- well, a sort of a family, now. I never used to have any reason to keep myself safe, you know?"

"It's a motorcycle. You want a ride?"

He pulls on his shirt and looks over her and the motorcycle, she just looks good.
