Stupid lack of girl scout training.

And cell phone charging. Because Jessica's phone is now a useless square of metal and plastic. Which means fire is the only means of getting light right now. Which means she needs to figure out how to MAKE one.

And rubbing two sticks together does not work the way it does on cartoons.

"Wizards, and in my world it's both. We race on them, and even have sports."

Sirius is going to be very, very kind and not try to explain Quidditch to her.

"Wow." That sounds vaguely almost cool.

Jessica is not much for sports, at least playing them. It's hard when your body occasionally decides it doesn't care much for this corporeality. She's the worst goalie ever.

"Gotta be cool to watch. 3D!"

"Oh, it's great fun," Sirius agrees. "I'll take you for a spin on the broom sometime if you like."

....

She is not sure how she feels about that.

"Maybe. Hey, if you can take passengers... Those plant things don't go very high. Maybe we'd have a way out."

"I can take one at a time. Too bad I hadn't learned how to make Portkeys yet...I could transport all of us to...wherever."

"Is that like... a car?" Broomsticks, cars, whatever. She never read those books.

"Portkey? Can be anything. There's a spell, but it's highly regulated. Which usually wouldn't stop me, but I had better things to do."

"Like smoke in the boys' room?" Another joke! Hooray!

"....well. From time to time," Sirius admits. "Gillyweed, though. Not Tobacco."

"Gilly..." Does she really want to know?

"Well, it could be worse, I guess. You don't go around smashing mailboxes or anything, right?"

"I have never smashed a mailbox in my life," Sirius assures her. "Charmed the teachers' plates so all their food flew back up in their faces once...."

That nets him a suprised burst of laugh.

"Did you get away with it?"

"Oh, of course not. My mates and I, we've got a reputation for being practical jokers. They had a pretty good idea who did it. Gave most of us a laugh, though, so it was worth the detentions."

"Long as you get what you're going for..."

And as long as the joking is equal-opportunity.

"I wonder if we can keep this thing going until you two make those lights."

"I can experiment with an Eternal Flame charm."

Sirius predates the Bangles, so he can say that with a straight face and no background vocals. His mun, however, is not so lucky.

There's another "Is he kidding?" moment before she remembers that they probably don't know real-world stuff.

Oh yeah, and that whole seventies thing.

"...sure. That'd be cool."
