(no subject)

Outside the farmhouse, there's a very localised seismic incident.

Toph spent the night in a rock tent, mostly because the main building is already packed full of people. This morning, for a lack of anything else to do, she's decided to do something about it.

So this tiny little blind girl is standing in an empty field, within sight of both fort and house. At first she just stands paces quietly, getting a feel for the earth, then her hands lift, and a huge square of turf rises about three feet up, on a large slab of bed rock, taking her with it.

From there the Earthbender continues, waving her arms and occasionally feet in firm, strong motions, but with no obvious results to anyone who can't see or feel beneath the surface of the ground as she can, or who hasn't lookedclose enough to see the strained expression on her face. Not until the raised slab heaves up again after half an hour's work.

Toph is building somewhere for people to sleep.

"I don't think that's gonna work." Sokka slumps in a tangle of limbs against the farmhouse wall, sighing heavily. "We hafta think about this logically if we're gonna get out. Which we are. Especially now that you're here! They need you at the invasion, Toph, who knows what'll happen without you?"

"They can't call it off. It's our only chance. There's not gonna be another eclipse for another hundred years, and Sozin's comet will be here by summer."

Sokka looks dispirited, but only for a moment.

"Maybe we can get back to my me. That gives us two weeks."

Sokka grins.

"Katara will hate it."

But it'd be funny. Plus ... double the metal-bender? Yes PLEASE.

"Two of you to yell at," Sokka groans. It's hard enough keeping one Toph and Katara on civil terms.

"Although I bet two of you could get rid of Sparky Sparky Boom Man easy."

"Smoosh," Sokka agrees, palms thumping together less dramatically. "Has he been chasing you for the whole two weeks?"

"You took him out?" Sokka is delighted, and very proud of her. "I knew it was a good idea to bring you along!"

"Uh-huh," Sokka confirms, smirking. "Thank you, Oh Great and Noble Toph. Hey, do you have any food?"

He's hungry!

"Oh, let me think about that," Sokka says, already on his feet. His stomach gives a huge growl. "Yep, I'm coming."

"Not sure," Sokka admits, crouching to inspect it earnestly. "Some kind of rubbery plasticy thing. It's really cool."

"In the magic box?" Sokka perks up. "It's called a refrigerator." He pronounces this with care. "It keeps everything cold. What food's yours?"

[identity profile] lemur-sitter.livejournal.com 2007-11-14 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay!"

Sokka doesn't need persuading.

"There's all sorts of weird fruits in here. What do you want, green, yellow or orange? Or spikey?"

Sokka nods, holding the pineapple out towards her. "Don't ask me how you're s'posed to eat it."
