Owen is supposed to be dead, twice over. More accurately, he's supposed to be trapped in a radiation-flooded nuclear facility, watching his own body decay.

The only explanation he can think of is that the Rift took him, and the only conclusion he can come to is that he was luckier than poor old John.

So he picks a direction, and starts walking.

"Death doesn't bother me." She's seen enough of it. "No." She smirked at him. "Besides, how do I know you're not? Poor defenceless woman like me all alone."

He holds up his wounded hand in evidence.

"Wouldn't do me much good to try with one hand out of commission. And you couldn't kill me anyway, so I guess we're safe."

"What the hell happened to you?" She somewhere between horror and concern. "And why couldn't I kill you?"

"I broke my finger to prove a point", he says flatly. "Can't kill what's already dead... you couldn't even hurt me."

She paled. "Don't break the car." She made a move to switch to the passenger side. She really didn't feel like driving then.

"Don't worry. I'm a good driver."

He's qualified, anyway, even if he can be reckless in emergencies.

"I trust you." She grabbed the gun and settled herself. "Used to know a guy just like you."

"Oh yeah?" He slides into the driver's seat. "Where was that, then?"

"Yeah, odd little town in Wales. He was an utter tosser, saved my life though." She cares though.

"Funny, that. I was in Cardiff before I came here."

"Ya know I think that was the place." Pause. " A weevil nearly killed me."

Owen sits bolt upright at that, staring at her.

"You know about weevils?"

"Yep and they really hate me. I know about Torchwood. I used to to work with Jack."

"That's... not possible. I'd have heard your name if you'd ever been Torchwood."

"Parallel universe theory. Simple really. Though the crossing them I don't get. I think I used to know the answer but I don't now."

"All right, say I accept you're from a parallel universe Torchwood. You just happened to be the one to pick me up?"

He's just a little paranoid.

"The universe works in mysterious ways." She nodded wisely, she really is completely dippy.

"Ooh! Maybe because the other you saved me I had to pick up you!"

"Cross-universe karma?" He considers this, then shrugs. "S'pose there's no better explanation, unless this is a rather pointless trap."

"If I was some higher power I'd find it funny." She put her feet up on the dash and sunk lower into the seat. "We get to some sort of place where there might be anyone else, I say goodbye."

"Not a fan of other people?" he asks with a sidelong glance. "Deal."

"I lost my tag that says does not play nice with others. I think I left it with some of my mind."

"Ah, well. Not everybody asks for playing nice."

He grins and starts the car.

"What would you ask for then hmm?" She hasn't turned red at all.

That gets a regretful smile.

"Unfortunately, these days I'm too fragile for anything but nice. No healing, and all that."

"Sorry." Looking out the window is much better. "I wish I could help."
