(no subject)

It's not been as long as you think, honestly!

Toph's been crouching at the edge of Lake Michigan, apparently pensive and not doing much, excpet suddenly, in the middle of the morning:

"I got it!"

It takes about a heartbeat for Katara to leap up from her Bending practice and flicker down to the shore, beside Toph.

It's a few minutes after the big 'finding of the body' event that Mel realises she can't stay there any longer. She leaves Hana and Loo near the middle of the camp before racing to the very edge, leaning over and throwing up, not for the first time in recent days.

(The guilt when she hears Loo screaming is worse than the physical pain)

It's a ripe moon that rises over the lake once darkness has set in. The wind has not been obliging, so the camp is pretty ripe too. It's not the kind of smell that you get used to. It's strong and pervasive, and simple cloth masks are no real defense against it. Even the plesiosaurs seem to be giving this particular section of shoreline a wide berth.

Despite the communal lack of appetite, Suki cooked up a large batch of onion soup around mid-afternoon, just to try and cover the putrid odor. That didn't help much either.

Looking a little greener around the gills than usual, she waits by the fire for Katara to decide that she's ready. Please let it be soon!
