For the past day or two, ever since he stopped by the Cooper farm and got his car fixed up, Neil has been driving aimlessly around Kansas and the surrounding area.

He's usually happy to stop for a chat. There really isn't that much to do around here except talk to strangers.

"Right," Ai-Ling says. "But there's stuff to do around here that helps."

"Like what? I haven't been here long enough to know."

"The further out from the farm you get, the more there are creatures threatening people," she suggests. "Fighting them is good. I think people at the farm are trying to organise something wider."

He grins wryly.

"I won't be much use for that at the moment, though. Not without my-- Earth gadgets."
