After a long while of traveling out of stay-and discovering that she isn't the only one of her family to find herself in thus universe-Nhim has returned to the farm. She circles briefly around the farmhouse before turning and landing in a more open patch of ground-after all, there's quite a lot of her to land.

It seems traveling, or something else, has taken its toll on her while she was off. Nhim is showing her age more than usual, with her ears drooping and a more pronounced limp than usual. Rather than immediately go off to hunt, she instead lays down and curls up as much as creature her size is able to, watching the rest of the farm quietly.

From one particular radio frequency comes a lot of static - but sometimes, a woman's voice. A British accent is barely distinguishable in the words.

-- Hello? My name-- via Wy-- Hello? Is anyone--

Oliver left in his van, on a reconnaissance mission and a supply run. That was around two weeks ago. He hasn't been seen since. This is why.

He's stuck to fields and woods as often as he could - though he risks the road sometimes, as it's easier riding. He's hungry. He's tired. He rides Beau completely bareback, using knees and Commands to guide the horse. He Listens to Beau a lot, though all Beau talks about is how tired and hungry he is. It's good to hear a voice that's not his own.

Oliver is slowly approaching civilization - the Cooper farm - home.

Currently Beau walks by a lonely stretch of highway. Possibly near the farm. Possibly not. Oliver's chin droops to his chest. He shakes himself awake. Which is good - until a few minutes later, when his chin falls to his chest once more.

So, there's a creepy meadow.

Oliver is in the farmhouse, looking to speak to people about it. (There are also people he should offer condolences to for their recent losses. Possibly he'll find them as well.)

As he butters toast and makes tea in the Cooper kitchen, he has a map out of the surrounding area. He's thinking of going for a supply run/recon mission. Maybe this field is part of a pattern.

Since returning from the successful trip to Lake Michigan, Suki has gotten back on task with her usual chores and farmwork assignments. She's very pleased that Katara is alive again, and she's been working with extra zeal as a result. Somewhat amazingly, she's even been playing on occasion. All in all, she's been a lot more peppy.

Until now.

She's currently staring in dismay at a thoroughly dessicated meadow. Every bit of herbage is withered well beyond death in this fairly wide patch of land. And not because of the ravages of winter—the evergreen vegetation is black and shriveled too, and the earth itself is cracked and moistureless. Were it not for the cold, the area would probably be a dust bowl.

Suki saw something similar occuring when Katara was resurrecting herself. This is much worse though, to the point where the Kyoshi doesn't really want to investigate any further. She's a little afraid of what she might find...

Even though Mac has cleared out one of the houses in the little town and claimed it as his, he still finds himself spending a majority of his time here at the Cooper farm.

It's an old habit, not wanting to be alone. When you're pulled into a war, it's always good to have someone to watch your back. And even though he's not felt another Nightbane anywhere nearby, old habits die hard.

So, he's in one of the common areas, reading an old engineering textbook he'd come across and doodling circuit designs in a notebook.

They actually arrived back at the farm a while ago, in the middle of the night, with no fanfare. Since then, Katara has been soaking in the winter sunshine, running around blissfully, practicing her bending and hugging her friends and brother, and basically just having a wonderful time. Today she's sitting at the edge of the pond, feeding Spots and grinning enormously at everyone who comes near. Life is great! Especially when you haven't had it for ages!

Steph is still working in Smallville at the bar, and has been catching up on missed shifts for the past couple of days; this is the first afternoon she's had off since they got back, and she's down at the training area making good use of her workout time. At the moment, just bending and stretching and general maintaining-of-absurd-Battish-flexibility. Any suggestions that she is avoiding Babs, using physical activity to avoid thinking, will be ... avoided via physical activity.

So you might have noticed there's a big ol' robot parked out back of the bunker at the Cooper farm. It's large and green and looks very battered.

Approach it, and one of two things happens.

Either you came during the day, and Val Bell is sitting on its head with a good book and a bowl of apples, or you came during the evening or night and it is apparently deserted. 'Apparently' being the key word.

What'll it be?

Never too soon to start baby into the habit of exercising!

Granted, "exercising" here involves "being strapped to her chest while Mom jogs," but Ralph at least seems to be enjoying himself. The fact that Sonia's braid is a wonderful chew toy may help here.

Both are, of course, bundled up reasonably for the winter weather. It's almost like home!

For the past day or two, ever since he stopped by the Cooper farm and got his car fixed up, Neil has been driving aimlessly around Kansas and the surrounding area.

He's usually happy to stop for a chat. There really isn't that much to do around here except talk to strangers.

Oliver, with a prominent five o'clock shadow and smelling strongly of horse, sits on a couch in the Cooper living room. A Bible rests open on his lap. He turns the pages with one hand - the other is busy making notes on a small notepad beside him.

A mug of tea sits in front of him. He absentmindedly takes a sip from it and frowns. When did it grow cold?

(That he's been studying the Bible for two whole hours hasn't sunk in, and likely won't. Oliver has a wristwatch, but never remembers to use it.)

He closes and bookmarks the Bible, sets down his pen, and goes to heat up his tea, for once not giving off waves of 'don't bother me, I'm working'.

What has happened?

BABY HAS HAPPENED. Because the mun doesn't want to RP out delivery and crap.

Sonia is very quietly freaking out in a hospital room because HOLY CRAP THAT THING IS NOT INSIDE AND IT IS ALIVE AND NOW SHE HAS TO TAKE CARE OF IT OMGWTF. (And also because it is asleep and if it wakes up she doesn't know what to do with it.)

You hear that?

That is the noise of Jack approaching the farm, European folk metal blaring out of the speakers of the Coraline. He had considered arriving at Ruth, but then he decided to screw that idea. Jack Hollins doesn't fear anything at the farm, dammit.

So he's driving up merrily, singing along with the radio.

[Dealing with a world gone mad.]

One particular day, Oliver tries to start his van, ready for another day of patrolling and moping.

The battery is dead, though he doesn't know this: all he knows is that the engine sounds sick and won't run.

He gets out of his van with a look of weary disappointment, then looks around the Cooper farm for someone who can help him.

It would probably be sensible of Sonia to keep her roaming around in the wilds to a minimum, given the imminent baby thing. However, Sonia has never been one of the most sensible people ever.

Today's walk has been particularly fruitful for her; she's returning to the farm with an uprooted laurel shrub, and trying to figure out the best place to plant it. Y'know, beyond "in the ground."
[identity profile] no-devo-quotes.livejournal.com
OK, this is getting really freaky. Regular weight gain she could handle, kind of. Even if it was distressing.

Weight gain that appears to have all centered on her abdomen, making it suspiciously rounded now, well, that's not cool. Not cool at all. Sonia is pacing a bit away from the hospital, internally debating whether she wants to risk going in there and dealing with people. Because there's got to be some sort of disease that makes you look pregnant. It is the only possible solution. Pregnancy is not an option here.

In Metropolis....

Eden McCain has a table to herself at a coffee shop - notebook papers are spread over it with titles like 'Main Character' and 'Subplot 1'. The great post-apocalyptic novel isn't going to get written any other way! She felt like dressing like a cliche artist - and is wearing a navy blue beret.

Tom Therin is whistling cheerfully to himself as he walks down the street, idly looking for pockets to pick.

On the Cooper farm....

Bridgette Dubois has a stuffed pony, a lion, and a unicorn in a semi-circle on the lawn to the Cooper house. "Whoever wants me to sing Lion King at the talent show, say aye!"

The stuffed animals are silent, but Bridgette - after checking on Marie, who claps her hands in agreement an area to her left - nods as if they actually spoke. "All right - how about Sound of Music?"

Oliver Wycliffe, dressed in white and looking thoughtful, is riding his stallion Beauregard down the road to the farm.

Dana, an extremely tired-looking young woman in ratty jeans and a T-shirt, is waiting nervously in front of the hospital, gnawing on her lip.

At a time that's not the time they're all in Metropolis, there is a pair of fishnet tights out in the training field.

They're being worn by Dinah, who is stretching and warming up and waiting to see who's going to turn up for a training session, which is really the only reason you'd ctach her at the farm these days.

Oliver is standing by his van on a certain morning. There are couch cushions in the back instead of hay and dung, and most of the horse smell is gone. Also in the back is a fresh first-aid kit, some blankets, bottles of water, and five hearty sandwich lunches.

In the front are a few books. Oliver anticipates much boredom in the mall at Jefferson City.

Now he's just waiting for people to arrive.

Sonia's a surprisingly good seamstress, given her occupation. (Then again, her occupation often involves rips, tears, burns, and other wounds to clothing, so it's a practical consideration.)

So, having discovered that it is now impossible to wear her hunting outfit, she's improvised something with her bedsheets and is now inside the house, trying to ease it more into a "dress" and less a "toga." While in it.

She of course still has the whip at her side. Just in case anyone feels like laughing at her.
