(no subject)

The trip back from Chicago to the farm is just as slow, and even more low on fuel - but the moods in the cars are very different from the trip there.

In Katara's case, it's a good change - she can't stop beaming at everyone, hugging and kissing and more hugging, eating real food and breathing real air and feeling the snow on her face for the first time in so long. Her bending is back, although it's not quite all it should be - not yet.

But it will. Everything is going to be wonderful. Katara is sure of that.

Good moods are infectious - Loo's definitely picked up on it, and she's been a lot less worrying. Mel, too, has even started eating, although she still hasn't touched any meat, nor has she initiated much conversation.

When they reach a certain point, she speaks up.

"I want to get the car."

Sokka hasn't been 'cheerful,' exactly, but his mood has much improved. And if he's worried at all, it's a reluctant worry, since he's trying his hardest not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

All the same, when Mel speaks, his smile doesn't have very far to drop. He glances at her in the rearview mirror from where he's driving and nods. "Okay."

They can stop for that.

She had almost expected a fight, so is relieved when she doesn't get one, smiling faintly and rubbing Loo's hair gently.

"I could probably fly it back to the farm? Unless we can tow it."

Sokka nods again, dropping his gaze back to the road while he thinks. "If no one minds waiting a little, I can probably find something to tow it with."

There's certainly no end of parts in that mechanical graveyard.

Mel shrugs, not knowing if anyone will mind or not.

"Not like we'[re in a hurry."
