Last night was...

...last night was just what Mel needed to work out some of her issues right now :-D?

Since coming back, she's been doing rounds of the farm with a determined eye, making lists of things that need doing, doing some of the more urgent things; maybe she's spoken to you about what you need to do, but it's possible she hasn't yet caught upon all the gossip.

Now, as Hana and Loo play together in the grass, she's sitting and staring comtemplatively at a car that once flew. Funny how, even though one may have a genius mechanic for a brother and live with still more, there are some things for which help still cannot be asked for.

Mel wants to make it work again, and she's not sure where to start.

SOKKA APPRECIATES THAT.

He nods and looks over at the twins, smiling as he watches them play. It's not that he's unhappy to have Katara back, it's just...

He already has a sister. He left her behind in Apocalyptica. This girl, this sister, she just-- doesn't feel like his. He barely remembers the sweet, hopeful, optimistic girl without that flash of not right behind her eyes.

It feels like he's stealing something he doesn't deserve, that he already lost. It's not a good feeling.

Sokka nods, still smiling. This Katara, she... she's like the last one in that she doesn't seem to want or need him much. So long as he's alive and around for poking, she seems pretty happy with that.

That's enough, he thinks. He's got four other girls - two nieces, a sister, and a girlfriend - that need him to do more than just keep breathing.

That's enough.

Sokka nods with his eyes still on the twins, but his eyes shift to Mel before he answers. "Do you want help?"

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka listens quietly and then looks over at the car, thoughtful.

"I can take a look at it, if you want. Give you a few places to start."

He knocks her shoulder, smiling slightly.

"I mean, I guess I could. You're such a pain, always asking me for favors."

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka will deny that he nearly fell over at that knock.

"I'm pretty much the kindest, more considerate guy on the planet," he points out humbly.

"It's saying plenty! That's a title to be proud of!"

Sokka is Ttly Offended, Mel. Srsly.

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka beams at her, pleased. "That's just more evidence for how I'm the awesomest person on the planet."

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
This requires another shoulder knock.

"'Course you are."

Duh.

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka looks over at them doing all this, too, and his worried frown turns into a smirk quickly.

And then becomes a thoughtful frown.

"I don't think so. Katara used to freeze me to the ice when I did it to her."

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm the oldest," Sokka points out. "I'm not allowed to go running to anyone if my little sister beats me up.

"Katara was just stubborn."

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I think they're supposed to be worse with that when they're teens," Sokka replies, grinning. "I'll be hiding until they're twenty, by the way."

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka's reply is prompt and smug. "Somewhere cold and wet that isn't flammible."

Obviously, he's been thinking about this.

...or he has experience with hiding from their father in places like that.
