A Fortress of Solitude, carved out of ice, ready and waiting for... what?

Clark has spent some time pondering it, and he's no closer to the answer. He has nothing here. Well, nothing except Charlie, and bringing her into a building made of ice might not be the best idea. However, a close examination of his landing spot did reveal the first two pieces of memorabilia for his secret home. The remains of his sun forcing armor, no longer needed now that he's under his own home sun. And a yellow ring with accompanying lantern. Sinestro insisted he have one, despite not needing it. Still, it looks good where it is.

A quick trip to Paris added a third item. A piece of the Eiffel Tower, melted into slag by a fierce heat. He can't help but smile, looking over it. And then it's back home.

Cooper Farm

Perhaps too quickly. He seems to have pulled a touch of the artic wind with him, a small patch of grass frosting over as he lands. He pauses, looking about him, his face impassive as usual. There is so much he could do... but what should he do?

How about one visibly pregnant girlfriend? One whose been scarce recently thanks to a combination of helping neighbors clear out a couple of abandoned farms and morning sickness. The latter seems to be over now, thankfully, so Charlie is out and about this morning in her Bug.

Maybe a rapid succession of horn toots will get his attention since she keeps forgetting about the extra button on her watch.

And with a blue of speed lines, Clark is by her side, a brilliant smile on his face as he looks at her. "Hi."

She beams right back at him, pleased she remembered to stop the car beforehand. "Hi yourself."

He reaches through the window to lay a hand on her belly. "How we doing?"

"We are doing fine now that I'm not so sick anymore." Charlie covers his hand with one of hers briefly. "Baby is moving around, but hasn't started kicking yet."

Clark kisses her cheek softly, his hand stroking her gravid belly. In his head, the words 'I'm gonna be a dad!' tend to short circuit any other attempt at rational thought. "Good. Good. Absolutely... brilliant."

She's also incredibly nervous about the birth, though possibly in a more 'I'm going to go through the actual process' way than Clark's good mood. But once the blush has died down from the kiss, no matter how casual it was, Charlie goes back to beaming.

"Yep. So what are you up to today?"

"Building a hideout." He rubs his hair in the back. "Uh. Up North. In case. Just cause. Y'know."

"In case something even worse happens." She can understand that. "Are you moving up there?"

A shake of his head, his hair falling into his eyes. "No, god no... No, it's just... storage? Fallback? My, uhm, Fortress of Solitude."

"Oh." Expression relieved, she reaches up to brush that hair away from his forehead. "That's impressive sounding."

"It's just a bunch of ice I carved out." He shrugs. "Don't really have much in it yet."

"Well, what are you planning on putting in it?" Maybe she can help.

"So far, the couple things I brought with me and, uhm.." He blushes. "A piece of the first place we..."

Charlie lifts an eyebrow, not quite sure he's saying what she thinks he's saying. But he is blushing. "Ah. Well. I'm surprised there was anything left."

"Just, uhm, scraps." He shakes his head. "Yeah."

Griiiin. What? She's still young enough to be amused with this kind of talk. "Can I give you a lift anywhere?"

"Where you goin?"

"Metropolis. I need maternity clothing." She makes a vague gesture towards the protruding tummy, even though its not all that big yet.

"Sure, why not?" And hop in he does.

And they're off. It's still a couple hour drive there, so Charlie fills the time talking about how nicely her place is coming along, even though her impending big belly has slowed things down a bit.

When she's done babbling, "So tell me more about this Fortress."

"It's, uhm... Big?" Still batting zero on the social skills Clark.

Charlie refrains from making cracks about big things. She's expecting, after all, and en route on a nearly deserted highway towards the big city in the distance.

"Big and igloo-ish? Or castle like?"

"More... uhm... I guess castle like? No real turrets or anything, but a bunch of rooms, deep into the ice."

"Remind me to pick up arctic gear if I ever visit." She turns her attention to merging onto an off ramp heading into the city.
