(no subject)

Barbara Gordon can't really 'go for a walk', but even she sometimes needs fresh air. She really misses her car from back home. They haven't had time to modify any of the recovered vehicles here for use by a woman with no working legs, and that means she can't actually go too far from the farm. Still, she goes as far as she can. It's not far but it gives her at least the illusion of distance. Of solitude.

At least if she ignores the laptop tucked under her seat which will give her a signal if any7 of a dozen of her algorithmic alarms go off.

Sam studies it for a long moment before pointing. Not to red areas, and not inside the yellow triangles. Not even necessarily where there's a concentration of red circles.

"Pretend fuel isn't a problem. You could put them here, here. Not directly in the action but close enough to step in. It wouldn't be ideal living, but I've met a lot of people new to this place that aren't looking for the suburbs."

Sam is silent for a moment before looking at her, still frowning thoughtfully.

"...Leah's got a way to contact you, right?"

...okay, that ruins the Srs Face. Sam breaks into a grin and laughs a little in return. "All right. Well... let me get back to you on the fuel thing. I've got to check something out first."

Sam and his lifted eyebrow do not.

"Uh, yeah. It won't take long."

Maybe.

Sam nods and doesn't add anything, though his eyes do get a shade darker. It isn't fuel he's going looking for.

But they might be able to save the yellow triangles all the same.

He looks at Barbara again, then the network of computers, satellites, surveilance equipment.

"...if I needed to find someone, how easy could that be?"

Two excellent questions Sam isn't going to answer.

He shakes his head, still looking at the equipment. "Someone my brother met about a year ago. He's got a name, maybe a face, no idea where he went after that."

Sam smirks a little, thinking of Dean's description.

"I'll get back to you."

Sam shrugs, not exactly unbothered but expecting the difficulty. "We'll see," is all he says, giving her workstation a final glance over. He shakes his head, impressed as much as overwhelmed, and starts moving toward the stairs.

"Need anything from Metropolis? I'm just stopping here for supplies and heading back."

Sam grins at her, already pulling his bag off his shoulder.

"The useful stuff's been picked clean," he says, presenting her with two small volumes, "so I hope you like murder-mysteries."

"Sorry. My brother already grabbed the Choose Your Own Adventure ones."

He's certain Babs would have just loved those.

That is not helping Sam's amused smirk at all.

"I'll tell him you said so."
