Barbara Gordon can't really 'go for a walk', but even she sometimes needs fresh air. She really misses her car from back home. They haven't had time to modify any of the recovered vehicles here for use by a woman with no working legs, and that means she can't actually go too far from the farm. Still, she goes as far as she can. It's not far but it gives her at least the illusion of distance. Of solitude.
At least if she ignores the laptop tucked under her seat which will give her a signal if any7 of a dozen of her algorithmic alarms go off.

"I'm kinda relieved you didn't want it back," she admits, grinning. "It's nice to know that I could call you if I got into trouble. I mean, it's not like mobile phones work around here. don't miss them as much as I thought I would, which is weird, but I guess after Eden everything was different anyway. Oh, Zinda and Hal probably told you - by the way, did you know I met Hal Jordan? Seriously, the real Green Lantern guy! - but you don't have to worry about that Labrador corner any more, we freed the town. So it's all good."
What ? Filling uncomfortable silences with chatter is Steph's specialty.

A bit of Steph babble is really rather welcome right now.

Stretching wings of independence or not, Steph is nothing but thrilled by that particular fact.
"And you guys can repair the Aerie One, right? Zinda's gonna be working her ass off trying, I know that. But do you need anyone to go scavenge parts or anything? I could help - Sokka, too, he'd love an excursion to an abandoned airport or something to pinch bits of jets."

"And I'll put you on the list as volunteering to lug around heavy machinery."

"If I spend a few hours getting all greasy and dirty with engines? The results will so be worth it. Sokka likes engines."

Her giggle puts the lie to those words.

It's strange being the one trying to comfort Babs, to reassure her. Babs usually knows everything, is everything, does everything. Steph puts it down to 'maybe she's mellowed a little.'
"Lips are sealed," she promises happily. "I won't say a single word. Much."

Steph sits up, grin widening.
"I thought I saw him around this morning. Why, does he like engines too? Or just costumes?"
SHAMELESS.
(And boy-talk is a safe thing to talk about - she hopes.)

"It would just be mean not to share, you know. Considering how pretty Dick is."
Even if there's still tension between her and Babs, even if there's so much that hasn't been said and might never been said - Steph isn't a woman who could interrupt someone's obviously-rare laugh to demand painful details.

(It might. But her chances aren't good, and she'd really prefer not to test it out.)
"I'll just distract you by talking about boys again."
