When Mal went to sleep, everything was right with his ship and his crew. River was pleasantly minding the bridge, Simon was asleep in his bunk, Wash and Zoe were not asleep in theirs and Jayne was busy polishing his gun collection.

So when Captain Reynolds wakes and finds himself on an empty ship, he cottons on to the possibility that something is wrong right away. A thorough search of said ship uncovers nothing in the way of crew members, or the reasons behind their disappearance.

It's not until Mal takes a good look at the sensors that he realizes he's orbiting a planet he's never seen before. Swearing under his breathe in Chinese, the former soldier gently eases Serenity into the atmosphere, on a trajectory that will land him in the middle of the Northern continent facing his direction in the next hour.

When he lands, the settlers had better have some damn answers.

That's ... not exactly what Mal is expecting, to be honest. Said dragon appearance is filed away under 'what the hell is that?' for later rumination, but all Lucy might be able to see is a pilot with a very determined expression guiding the starship towards dirtside.

Well then. The dragon flaps towards his ship and lands, neatly and carefully, on one of the side bits.

She doesn't even dig her claws in! How polite.

It should be noted at this point that she's... well, roughly the mass of a short, slight human. Most of her presence is wing and neck and tail and a hint of claw.
