There was hammering and nailing going on around the farm again. Remains of a HoHo's near Xander's post after he and Will had gone on munchie run in Smallville the other day. He was currently working on the little house for Pikachu, and there was a new development. His one eyed pirate days were over since the patch was gone, and there were two peepers looking around now. The new one was a little lighter in color than his normal, and definitely looked glassy. But he could still see with both again.

He's also taking furniture requests.

Xander nodded, "Sounds more like the Watchers, only some of them are more hands-on kind of guys like Giles. Which Prince of Darkness? Vampire right?"

"Yeah. Dracula." Her frown deepens.

"Never heard of any Watchers. Far as I know, it's mostly just us, least in Warakiya."

Dracula and Xander have a very strange history in his world, so hopefully Sonia won't fault him for the reaction.

"...The Master...baiter?" He asked with surprise, and covered it up with a cough.

He then hastily added, "Well there used to be a whole bunch of Watchers and one Slayer, and now... it's kind of the opposite."

"Yeah, I- you okay there?" That particular word is not in Sonia's vocabulary.

"So... what's the difference?" They all kill demons, right?

"Uh, fine! Thought I accidentally swallowed a bug or something." Renfield cracks or jokes will mean glaring.

"Not exactly, some Watchers train Slayers. They're the Obi Wan to Slayer's Luke. A mentor. But then you had the Council which were a bunch of guys who just thought she was a tool, a weapon."

She's about four centuries too early for Renfield cracks, fortunately.

"...oh. But, there's more than just a family?" This is good! This means people are (hopefully) more safe.

"Yeah, I mean Watchers were families, according to G-man, uh Giles. But Slayers are girls that are randomly Chosen for the job."

"...I guess I'm both, then." Maybe.

Xander considered her, "Well, Slayers are also stronger, faster than most people. Almost like a superhero, only it used to be this one girl in a generation. And they had to do this for the rest of their life." Becoming a bit more somber and thoughtful.

"...yeah." Yeah, that sounds about right. "And you can do stuff nobody else can."

"Yeah, exactly. Only now there's a lot more of those girls back home, a lot who aren't sure what's going on, and need help and guidance."

And he should be there helping, but can't now.

"...wow." At least she had-

Wait.

"Can't the church help 'em out?"

"Church probably doesn't even know about this, and it uh... kind of predates them even. I think. It was a bunch of mystic guys in Africa with sticks according to Buff."

Wut.

"In where? An'... don't they fight demons? I mean, I only knew what I could do because of the church..."

Or at least that she wasn't cursed and evil. Same diff.

"Yeah, they do, uh, you should really asking Giles about all this, only I haven't seen him here yet. He'd have all the footnotes and slides about how the world started out overrun by demons, and people got tired of it. And decided there should be a Slayer."

"People?"

She shakes her head. "No, it's God. God gave me these gifts. Otherwise, it'd be witchcraft."

Witchcraft is Bad.

"Actually? It was magic, and what's wrong with witches? My best friend's one, and she's really good at what she does." ...Well, one version of her that is, he's upset at the other version.

WHAT

For a moment, she can only gape at the question.

"They-

"You-

"But-

"They get their powers from the DEVIL!"

Xander's expression tightened at her reaction as he tried to gently explain, "Different world, and Willow's been a good Scooby like the rest of us. And her spells have helped us kick some serious demon butt, and saved our lives."

"Diff-"

Something knocks on the side of her mind. She falls silent, then droops.

"I... guess. Maybe. But... then she wouldn't be a witch. It's... it's somethin' else."

Xander watched her, "Well, that's what Tara and Willow called themselves. There's also something about Wicca, and sometimes calling to a Goddess. ...Sometimes really loudly, but that's only because the walls were really thin, and I only happened to overhear that one time, and I should shut up now." More fervent hammering and nailing of the house now. Even though it was just about finished.

Sonia is pretty sure that that's bad (the "Goddess" part is a tipoff), but she's not really sure how, mainly because the witches she's used to are more like "HAIL SATAN!" and cackling and generally evil.

She's not really used to this whole ambiguity thing.

"But... they fight demons... right?" That's probably the important part.

"Um, y'need any help?"

"Yeah, yeah she does. Uh, Tara died a few years ago, she was shot." Brief grimace, and he added, "Just about got this, thanks. I should probably put a note up for anybody good with their hands to help with construction."

"Oh, sorry..." Hopefully she is not burning in hell.

Well, that is, hopefully she was not ACTUALLY a witch and therefore would not be judged to burn in hell.

Sonia is bad at comforting. It's why she's not SAYING this.

"I mean, I ain't much good, but I could, y'know, haul things. Or somethin'."

"Sure, if you want to. I could give you some pointers too."

She half-smiles. "May as well make m'self useful, right?"

Y'know, as long as they're not under immediate threat by demons and all.
