(no subject)

Some time after talking with Steph, Zuko still has no idea how to go about approaching the many people who he should proably talk to.

Instead, he's focusing on something that puts it all off very nicely, and practicing firebending forms out in the training field. They really do make much more sense after visiting the Masters - without having to spend to much effort on brute force and anger to produce the flame, everything flows more, and that in turn is levelling out his thoughts.

So. Another version of him had children. And they're here. They also seem to think he's their father- at least, the version that they knew. He should talk to Mel first, then. He's not sure what she thinks, but he should ask, in any case. And Iroh should know.

Later. He finishes off a form, and moves onto the next.

If it helps, this particular Sokka does not have a stick.

...at this time.

The Sokka who is tall with no necklace, short hair, jeans and a t-shirt, and also has scars on his face (which, admittedly, may not be visible from where Zuko's standing), arches a brow and smirks.

"The one that totally isn't surprised by you being here," he offers. "And isn't going to scream at you. If that helps."

He nods quietly and then considers, thinking of Sokka-the-younger. "...honestly, I don't know if he would," he says after a moment. "Mel said you're allied with Aang where you come from? I don't think the other one was when he got pulled here. There might be some yelling, but nothing to worry about."

No screaming and getting charged at with a spear.

Or a stick.

Sokka isn't approaching at all, it should be noted. Nor is he trying to freak the other boy out. He's honestly not sure what to do here but-- if Steph and Mel could face this Zuko, so can he.

"It wasn't me."

He smiles, a little easier when they're in conversational distance, but still just-- awkward.

"I left after the Northern Tribe." A beat and he grins, just a little, teasing. "After you got waterbended to the wall."

And, just in case this Zuko is anything like his brother, quickly adds - "It's good. That you're with them, I mean - with Aang. And not just for the obvious reasons."

Sokka nods, hands slipped into pockets in the classic teenage pose of awkward-sulkiness. "Well, you can do good stuff here, too," he says, glancing around the farm. "Maybe not Avatar-good, but still good."

As for it being awhile, Sokka just nods again. "Almost three years."

...insert the sharp lift of a chin and some blinking here, please.

"You know?"

CAUSE THIS INFORMATION WAS NOT SHARED WITH THE UNCLE, THANK YOU.

Poor Zuko. Sokka is having a hard time with his reaction, too, bouncing between being frustrated with Steph and utterly proud at how brilliant his nieces are.

...which leads him to wondering how long it will take Zuko to notice that they call him Uncle Sokka.

"Yeah," he says, after the shock's died down a bit. "I knew you. We were, uh... good friends."

OH YEAH JUST A LITTLE.

"Look," Sokka begins, frowning a little as he tries to figure out HOW THINGS MAKE SENSE again. "They're not-- really yours, you know? Like I never travelled with you, you just traveled with someone that kind of looked like me and grew up the same way. It's not like Mel's your wife, so don't worry about the girls being yours. They're not."

He's trying not to be too firm on this point while-- still being pretty firm, honestly. HIS BROTHER'S TWINS, NOT YOURS.

JOIN THE CLUB. THEY WILL MAKE BADGES.

Sokka's smirk is a little humorless for that reason and he shrugs. "Try visiting three of them in three years," he offers.

"I know it's weird, though. I mean... having a double? Not cool at all. So I kind of get what you're saying."

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka makes a face.

"Do I like that there's a younger version of me running around and reminding me of what I left behind? Oh yeah, it's great."

HIS SARCASM, LET HIM SHOW YOU IT.

Really, though... Zuko-from-one-week-ago = AUGH.

Sokka blinks and then does a miraculous job of looking even more sheepish and awkward than has already been demonstrated. "...oh."

Totally can't see through this tough outer exterior to the vulnerability inside, right? Sokka is totally not transparent Except for where he totally is

"Um... well, yeah. Mel's in love with him, he's the girls' father, he's," my brother, "a good friend. But," he shrugs a little, deciding that pockets are UTTERLY WIN with his hands shoved into them, "what do you care what we think, right?"

[identity profile] notanoptimist.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
She totally is.

Sokka arches a brow, relaxing if only for pure 'wtf'-ness. "...I didn't ask you to justify your existence."

Just pointing it out.

It speaks volumes that Sokka's response to this is a small smirk. Yes, it is to the point where he almost misses Zuko's bitching.

Almost.

"If it makes you feel better," he begins, off-hand and utterly gracious here, "I don't really much care about your existence."
