Claire is on a mission. Well a number of missions. She has a plan, you see - or an idea that might be a plab, so she can maybe be more than one half of 'the pair of blonde baking girls.'

First she tries that new hospital, looking for grouchy old men with canes. Then she tries the kitchen of the farmhouse, looking for the ghost of her boyfriend's sister. Then she wanders around the farm randomly looking for that redhead in a wheelchair and/or that older guy who makes her blood run cold everytime she sees his face.

It's possible anyone could find her anywhere, of course.

Barbara is sitting out on the back porch, her laptop settled across her knees and her fingers dancing across the keyboard.

There's a still-steaming cup of coffee perched precariously on the left arm of her chair which she manages not to knock of due to long practice.

"Hey," says Claire, super-casual. "Barbara, right? How's it going?"

"That's right," Barbara pauses in her typing to look up. "You're Claire." It isn't a question.

"I suppose things are going about as well as they can in a world where humanity clings to survival by its fingernails."

"Yeah."

Well, great, that's but a dampner on Claire's good mood.

"You, uh... is there anything I can do?"

She's been training with Dinah and Steph, but all that means now is that she can throw a punch, and take one without falling over.

"Probably," Barbara offers. "What kind of skills do you bring to the table?"

"I can heal," Claire offers hopefully. "As in, I can't get hurt and..."

She's looking Barbara straight in the eye. She'll know that look. The one when the looker's eyes are not on her legs.

"...I think I can heal other people."

The moment of stillness that settles over Barbara Gordon is almost imperceptibly short.

"You think you can?" she asks, careful to keep her voice curious rather than hopeful.

Claire for one, doesn't notice it. She's too busy feeling self conscious.

"That guy Gray? At the meeting, said he could heal people? He got that ability from someone like me. And y'know, I've died. A few times. I've broken my neck, been shot, and cut my little toe off once."

Beat, which she uses to calm herself down.

"And he said it's the same. He used it to save my boyfriend's life."

"So if someone were to get shot or something like that you could heal them?" Barbara suppressed her disappointment. It sounded like this was something for immediate trauma. Which, honestly, wasn't bad at all. She could use that.

"How does this work?"

"I look like I have a biology degree now?"

Claire shrugs, and sits on the porch railing, trying to figure this out.

"I think it's like - I have really fast cellular regeneration. You know how some lizards can grow back limbs if they're severed? Or how you can grow whole new organs from adult stem cells?"

She's wincing apologetically like someone who's not certain they're right and needs confirmation.

"I'm familiar with the phenomenon, yes." Barbara hums in thought for a moment, "But how does that allow you to heal other people?"

"I dunno," Claire admits. "I'm kind of hoping to find out more about it. I think it's something in the blood?"

"So, what, you think that providing a blood transfusion might heal people?"

"Yeah, that's pretty much it," Claire agrees.

"I haven't tried it out yet."

"Experimenting with that sort of thing could be dangerous..." Barbara muses. "I mean, what if part of your ability is a really strong immune system. Your blood might attack someone else if it was injected into them."

"Yeah, I know," Claire says. "But Syla- I mean, Gray. He's used his. He says he didn't get it from me, but it's the same."

"How can you be so sure?" Barbara taps her chin. "Not that I'm hoping you're wrong, that sounds like it'd be really useful to have around, but it's also pretty risky."

"I can't," Claire admits, frankly. "But I want to be."

"Well..." Babs muses, "I can understand that. Have you got any way you might find out? Because if you can heal people with just a blood transfusion, well, that'd be a big advantage."

"Short of asking someone to stab themselves so I can try it out?"

Claire gives a sheepish smile. "I only do that when it's me."

Barbara quirks an eyebrow, "A real hands-on sort, then?" She shakes her head, "I hope you're being careful."

Claire looks down at her feet. Not out of embarrassment, but because she's actually thinking about her feet.

"I'm in one piece, aren't I?"

"Sure looks like it," Babs admits with a grin.

"So, you got any ideas how you can test the whole healing thing? I mean, other than us being in some sort of emergency situation where it's that or someone dies."

Claire shrugs. "I'm gonna ask Dr. House if he's got any ideas. But I was thinking of just finding people who had some sort of injury they wanted to try it out on."

Barbara blinks, eyes narrowing. "Wait. Are you thinking this might work on existing injuries and not just new ones?"
