Sidetrip
Lawrence, Kansas, is not a spectacular town. It does not have neon lights pointing to it detailing "EVERYTHING IMPORTANT IN THE WORLD TO BE FOUND HERE". Given the recent Apocalypse, it doesn't even have lights. Or people anymore, for that matter.
Still, it's home.
And what's more, that's home. Once she started recognizing landmarks, Dianne began leading the way, and lead she did- directly to an innocent, perfectly ordinary if slightly broken-down home. She pulls the Impala into the driveway (which could use some re-paving, to be honest), and steps out, stretching, and waits for Faith.

And then she trails off, as a black vintage Impala turns onto the street.
".......huh."

Gigantor gets out.
Okay, not really, but he's tall and gangling and pretty dangerous SOMETIMES, anyway.
Right now he's also staring at the Impala, looking.....completely shocked.
no subject
(Okay, not really, but we've got a dramatic licensing here, okay?)
"Sammy!"
It doesn't really take her long to cover the distance between her and her little brother, and there may be a sort of flying hug thing (she hasn't seen him in forever, okay?).
The Apocalypse isn't really the place for a reunion, but at least she knows he's alive.

Sam looks up just in time to catch the girl that just threw herself at him.
He blinks down at the top of her head, completely confused....but hell, it's the end of the world. The poor thing is probably distraught.
"There, there, Miss," he says, and pats her shoulder. "Everything's gonna be okay. I'm Sam. What's your name?"
It may have escaped his attention that she called him 'Sammy.' You know. What with the seeing the Impala and wondering where the Hell his brother is.
(Oh right. HE'S IN HELL.)

(Hey, being home is not helping her emotional state, okay?)
But that's all right, because she's pretty good at using anger to mask worry and/or emotional pain, demonstrated by the way she pulls herself forcibly away.
"The fuck, dude? Just because you've been off doing your own thing at college does not give you the right to pretend you don't even know me!"
no subject
Sam blinks some more and looks down at her, looking genuinely confused - and slightly remorseful, in his puppy-dog way.
"Have we met? I'm sorry, I don't recognize you..."
no subject
"Fuck," she says again, helpfully. "You're serious."

no subject
Great.
She turns around, turns back, runs a hand through her hair. "You hit your head any time recently?"
no subject
no subject
...Standing on tiptoe.
Shut up.
"I'm not finding anything, Sammy."
no subject
".....oh. Parallel universes?" Sam looks interested. "That would certainly explain why....well, the plates on the Impala....we haven't used those in a while."
"'We?'"
"My brother and I."
"....................oh." Faith clears her throat. "I'm Faith Lehane. And this is, uh. Dianne Winchester."
"..........................................................what?"
"I kind of think she's your sister. Sort of."
".......................I don't have a sister," Sam says flatly, and releases Dianne. "I don't have anybody."
no subject
Blink at Faith.
"Someone wanna rewind and explain things to me here?"
Cause none of that made sense.

He and Dean watched it, once, when they were kids. Dean liked to look at the alien chicks and Sam enjoyed the not-really science.
no subject
Yeah, so. Not a whole lot of change there.
no subject
And now Sam's expression totally shuts down.
"Dean."
Note the past tense. HAD.
no subject
"'Had'?"
no subject
"Had," he says again, and turns away. "It was....nice to meet you, I guess."
no subject
"You are not walking away from me now."
Not again.no subject
Enough to make Sam stop, at least, and look up, his eyes dark with grief and pain.
"Everybody in my family died because of me. I'm not looking to cause any more casualties."
no subject
Only she's allowed to blame herself for letting anyone get hurt.no subject
"You're not my sister," he says, coldly. "You don't know me. You only think you do. So I don't see how it's any of your business what I do or don't choose to blame myself for."
no subject
Because family extends beyond alternate universe evil beard shit.
"I don't care what kind of broody guilt you've got going on in there, I want you to talk to me."
no subject
Sam advances on Dianne, his expression completely blank.
"Right before I came here, I was taking my brother's BODY someplace where I could burn it, because he died and went to Hell, because he made a deal with a fucking Crossroads Demon because I died and he couldn't leave it alone. I finally got him to trust me to save his life, and I couldn't do it, and he's gone, and I have nobody left. So what you want is really of no consequence to me, because all I care about is getting back to my world, and then killing anyone and anything that stands in the way of my getting him back."
no subject
Fuck. Does he have to be so tall? Really?
She looks him squarely in the eye, says, "Yeah, well, you want to know what I think of that plan, Sammy?" and decks him.
It's amazing how much power she can put into a punch.
