(no subject)

In Metropolis....

Eden McCain has a table to herself at a coffee shop - notebook papers are spread over it with titles like 'Main Character' and 'Subplot 1'. The great post-apocalyptic novel isn't going to get written any other way! She felt like dressing like a cliche artist - and is wearing a navy blue beret.

Tom Therin is whistling cheerfully to himself as he walks down the street, idly looking for pockets to pick.

On the Cooper farm....

Bridgette Dubois has a stuffed pony, a lion, and a unicorn in a semi-circle on the lawn to the Cooper house. "Whoever wants me to sing Lion King at the talent show, say aye!"

The stuffed animals are silent, but Bridgette - after checking on Marie, who claps her hands in agreement an area to her left - nods as if they actually spoke. "All right - how about Sound of Music?"

Oliver Wycliffe, dressed in white and looking thoughtful, is riding his stallion Beauregard down the road to the farm.

Dana, an extremely tired-looking young woman in ratty jeans and a T-shirt, is waiting nervously in front of the hospital, gnawing on her lip.

Angela is coming back from a run when she sees the little girl. This must be one of the children that Mr. Wycliffe had told her about.

She comes over. "I like your animals," she says with a smile.

(She sometimes still misses her own. Angela is not entirely Grown Up, of course.)

"Good name. What about the others?"

Angie likes kids. She wouldn't want to teach them if she didn't.

Angela nods. "That makes sense. I like the name Lady Amalthea. It's very pretty."

Angela laughs obligingly. She is sort of a funny kid, in a good way. "I liked that movie too. I'm Angela, by the way."

"Yes, I like animated movies quite a bit so I've seen it lots of times. It's nice to meet you, Bridgette."

She nods to the space she's indicated. "And hello, Marie."

Hey, imaginary friends are fine, especially in a place like this.

"How old are you, Bridgette?"

"I'm almost 18." Angela grins. "But I'm not entirely a grown-up. And I'll bet your friend Ariel still likes them, just won't admit it."

[identity profile] angela-edmunds.livejournal.com 2008-06-18 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah. Is Ariel here with you? Maybe she just didn't like that the Little Mermaid had the same name she did."

Angela nods, squatting down next to her. "Yeah. But sometimes when girls feel grown up, they might think they can't like those things anymore."

[identity profile] angela-edmunds.livejournal.com 2008-06-18 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Angela grins. "They're not so bad once you get used to them. But makeup is kind of uncomfortable so I don't wear it much, and only when I want to. And I still like the same stuff I liked as a little kid. But I like more stuff now."

"Well, there's driving and going to dances, and surfing. And I like to read and write stories now, and I fight and train with Dinah. And yes, I do like boys, as well."

She shrugs. "There isn't a law that says you have to like any of the same things I like. And I can like some of the same things you like even if you are younger than me."

"Really? I love to write them. What sorts of stories do you like to write?"

[identity profile] angela-edmunds.livejournal.com 2008-06-18 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"That sounds like a pretty neat story," she says. "How are you at reading and writing?"

"Good, well, you know, I was going to study to be a teacher, so if you want to learn anything new, you can come and see me. Though I'm not so great in math. I'm sure someone else here is better at math than I am."
