New York, Around Hogwarts

This castle was pretty impressive, Kate had found her way up to what was once the owlery as evidenced by some fossilized owl droppings and pellets that she found around as she headed up for a good view of the city. Easy to track triffids movements from here when they're out, and she was going to do patrols around to find where there might be other survivors like Jessica around here. Or just new arrivals in need of help. But at least, had the start of a base and headquarters with some supplies already. Including what Garo and Will had brought up. Hopefully Nathan will bring more, and more volunteers.

She had asked him to write a notice on the farm board, and leave information in Metropolis to anybody who might be interested in coming up and helping. Including a special message to Teddy to update him on her location. Also apologies to Mel for leaving the farm and patrol on short notice, and her thanks to Dinah for the practice help.

But her city needed her she felt, and she didn't think it was lost just yet.

"Who're you?" It's a challenging statement from a seven-year-old who has decided that, in absence of anyone else (other than paintings), she is the current King of the Castle.

O RLLY? And here Kate figured she was the current Queen.

But she smiled at the girl, and remarked, "I'm Kate, are you new here or been around?"

"I didn't say you could come here," is the reply. Complete with crossed arms.

More raising of eyebrows but she said, "The door was open, and we didn't see anybody else here besides the paintings and the ghosts."

"Well... it's a big place, so I guess you can stay here. As long as you don't get in my way."

"All right, though since it is a big place, maybe we can help each other out. A couple of my friends brought some supplies, food and other necessities, and seeing about improving defense around here against those plants. And getting more people to help out there, and with dealing with the plants. So any information you might have would be appreciated."

Whoa! An adult (teenagers look like adults when you are seven) is asking for her help! She is Important!

"I can show you around some," she offers. It's about the only thing she can think of that she can actually do.

Yes she is, since admitting she's been here longer, and Kate's willing to defer to her in that category.

"That would be great, thank you very much. Seen the tower, and one of the classrooms, but I know there's a lot more to check out around here."

She takes off at a trot, looking back once to make sure she's being followed.

"You can't get in a lot of places 'cause you need the password," she explains, "There's a kitchen and a hospital, though. And a huuuuuuuge room with tables and stuff."

Kate followed after her, and nodded, "Oh I know, only reason Will and I got access to the tower was through guesswork, and sheer luck. Password's apparently 'fairy lights' for whatever the reason. I didn't catch your name by the way."

"You got in?!" >:( Not fair!

"Um... I'm Laura. Who's Will?"

"Did I mention the sheer dumb luck part? It's nice to meet you Laura."

Kate then added, "Will would be Will Scarlett, my boyfriend, red hair with a bit of a beard, thin, green eyes, cute. He and Garo followed me up here from the Cooper Farm in Kansas. And we're hoping to get more volunteers from there and Metropolis to come up and help people here. Do you know Jessica? "

Long look back, "Well, yeah, I guess so. I hope you don't call her that. She can't help how she looks." Then again, Kate's used to mutants and aliens back home so her definition of normal's a bit broader than other.

"Who cares? She's a jerk, anyway." Most adults are, really. "There's the bathroom," she adds, pointing. Bathrooms are important.

Kate made note of it, storing it in her photographic memory as she remarked, "She's not. Not when you get to know her." If anything, the Young Avenger thought she was too hard on herself.

Shrug. "So you guys are gonna take the plant things?"

"We going to try. The better prepared and the more people we have, the better. Got some experience with threats like this though."

"Really? Are you some kinda superhero?" Because that would be cool.

Kate grinned back, "Hawkeye of the Young Avengers, at your service. We were based in New York back home in fact. Why I wanted to protect this one, since other world or not, it's still home."

"You're lucky it's still here. They don't have Ashfield or Silent Hill at all!"

"That's where you're from? What state are they in?"

"Maine. I already went there with Val and Mudkip," she explains glumly.

"I'm sorry, are they still around here?"

"Um... I dunno about Val," she admits, sheepishly. "I think he's still in the subway. Mudkip hangs out with me sometimes, though. I guess he's okay, even if he is a big baby."
