"It'll be okay. You can always ask Mel for hand-me-downs from her kids too. I'll bet she has a crib or something."

"Y- y'think so? Man... I just don't know anything about this..."

I hope I don't end up killin' it or nothin'.

"But there are others here who do. And me, I at least took care of my little brother when he was born, if nothing else. I'm not living here on the Farm anymore, but I'm here all the time anyway."

"Really?"

This is getting dangerously mushy and her eyes feel like they want to prickle, so, SUBJECT CHANGE!

"Where're you now?"

"Oh, down the road a little ways. My boyfriend and I wanted to have a place we could call ours, you know?"

Nod.

Sigh. "Lucky for y'all. Sounds nice."

"It is pretty nice. It's not huge but it's a nice place, and I think we'll be comfortable there this winter."

She hopes. She's a California girl and doesn't much like the cold.

"Long as y'got enough firewood."

She frowns. "Ain't a lot o' trees, so y'better get workin', I figure."

"Yeah, we've got a good bit laid away already." She grins. "Also, turns out the owner was big on solar energy so we've got that, too."

"Big on wha?"

"Solar energy...energy created by the sun." Her brow furrows. "There's panels on the roof that take the sun's heat and store it...for things like heating water and warming the house...or for generating electricity. It's kind of neat, actually."

"So, you can keep the sun's warmth? Like even at night?" Because that sounds awesome.

"Yeah, that's pretty much it!"

It is awesome. They were lucky to find that house.

"Gotta get me some of that! Make fightin' vampires real easy!"

It is possible she has completely misinterpreted this.

Yes, that is entirely possible.

"Actually, I'm not sure that will work. It just harnesses the heat...not the light."

Because isn't it the light that kills them? Angela is sure that's a factor.

"...like fire?" Which also works!

"No...it's stored in vessels that retain heat. But...not like fire and not like light."

Clear? As mud.

"Some kinda magic?" SOUNDS IFFY.

"'Fraid not. Just good for heat and hot water and running the lights and stuff."

"...but it's not sunlight?" OW OW SONIA HEADACHE THIS INVOLVES TOO MUCH THINKING.

"Nope. It just takes the warmth and saves it."

Angela doesn't understand it all fully herself! She was never good in science.

"....man." She can't think of anything better to say, so she's settling for rubbing her temples.

Angela smiles sheepishly. "Sorry for breaking your brain."

"I'm gettin' used t'it, here."

"I can imagine," she says. "I'm sure there will be more. I just...try not to think about the stuff that confuses me too much."
