Suki is sitting in the shade of a big beech tree, a little way removed from the buildings and goings on of the main farmstead. It's safe to say that her time at the Cooper Farm has not started very well, what with meeting Sokka and finding out that he's not the one that she left behind at the Western Air Temple, and having to swallow the fact that he's with some other girl here. Hence why she's distinctly unhappy right now.

There are other Sokkas here, allegedly, but she refuses to get her hopes up about that. Meditation hasn't helped at all. So she's just sitting there in her Earth clothes, brooding, and looking nothing like the proud Kyoshi warrior that some folk know her to be.

"It was alright actually," Suki concedes.

"Smooth ride, except when there was turbulence. And there were beds and showers and things. But it was made of metal, so... yeah, I doubt it's very good for the seeing with your feet thing."

"Oh seeing inside is fine," Toph says dismissively. "It's not having anything to connect to it outside the metal."

"Ah right," Suki replies. "That makes sense."

Something occurs to her.

"Hang on. I thought Earthbenders couldn't work with metal."

Yeah, there are some things that Sokka didn't catch her up on. He dwelt more on the things that revolved around him. Shocking!

"Most can't."

If Toph had lapels, she'd tug at them. If she were wearing suspenders, she'd ping them.

As it is, she tucks her hands into her hair at the back of her hair.

"Only one earthbender in all of history can bend metal."

"You?"

Suki looks at Toph with whole new levels of respect and admiration.

"Wow! That's amazing."

The display of egotism is amusing too, and she lets out a little giggle at that.

"I'm truly humbled to be in the presence of that incredible Earthbender."

"Yeah you are."

Girl never gets bored of the love.

"I'm the greatest ever."

More giggling from Suki.

"Yes, you are."

If not for her metal-bending, then for the fact that she's managing to take Suki's mind off the depressing situation with the Sokkas. Unintentional it may be, but it's very very welcome as far as the Kyoshi is concerned.

"I'd bow down to you, but I'm too comfortable."

"That's OK," Toph allows. "I couldn't see you bow anyway. It's enough that you want to."

Suki smiles to herself and lets the subject peter out naturally.

After a few moments, she comes back with something completely different:

"Do you think any time will have passed when we get home?" she muses, "or will we arrive back at the exact moment we got flash-banged?"

She's been ~~romanticizing~~ thinking about home since they talked about it a few minutes ago. And who can blame her?

"How'm I supposed to know?" Toph returns. "I don't even know how we're getting home."

"No," Suki sighs. "Me either."

"I'm going to search for a way though. There must be one. It can't just be a one way thing."

She rolls her head sideways to look at Toph.

"We could look together if you like. Barbara gave me an ear communicator thing so I can talk to her from wherever. We can let other people know if we find a way."

It's unclear why she assumes they'll have a chance to communicate before they get teleported back, when she had none on the outbound trip. Apparently logic is for Sokkas, not Suki.

WOO A PLAN.

"OK," says Toph. "Is Sokka coming?"

Suki gives that proposal all the consideration it deserves. i.e. absolutely none.

"No," she replies, immediately. "He'd just want to bring his girlfriend with him, and she's not coming back to our world. Same with the older one."

"We can do this on our own."

Earth! Fan!

And that's it, unless Rei wants to come.

Toph's quiet for a bit. She doesn't really want to leave Sokka, but she guesses he doesn't really need her.

"Is she pretty?"

It's obvious which Sokka she's referring to, and hence which girlfriend. A similarly telling silence follows.

"Yeah. I suppose she is," Suki eventually confesses. "She's got fair hair and green eyes. Different look than most girls from home."

Suki never met Princess Uwe.

"Is it?"

Toph wouldn't know what most girls look like.

"Thought so. She sounds pretty."

"Uh huh. Most girls have dark hair in the Four Nations."

As Suki fully processes what Toph just said, a curious eyebrow goes up.

"How do I sound?" she asks, tentatively.

"Uh..."

Oh hey now, there's no fair way to answer that question.

"Also pretty?"

Suki is pleased by the blind girl's analysis. She's not vain or insecure about her looks, but the totally unsubstantiated ego massage is welcome today.

"Aw. Thanks, Toph."

She beams happily.

"So are you."

"Thanks," Toph says, but she didn't really need it.

"Any time."

Suki rolls onto her back again and closes her eyes.

"You've been here a while. What's there to do around here? What do you do all day?"

Toph wriggles her toes.

"I Earthbend. No one else can build things like I build things."

"Hm. Fair enough."

"It's not like that's something I can do though. Barbara mentioned that she could use someone like me on rescue missions, but I'd like to help out around here too while I'm staying here."

"Can you farm?" Toph asks. "Girl named Mel runs the farm. Sometimes gets me to move heavy stuff for her."

"I don't see why not."

"Kyoshi Island was a fishing community. I did my fair share of physical labor there. And I'm pretty good at berry picking and things like that. I can learn anything that I haven't done before."

Her tone seems to say: how hard can it be?

Suki's a hard worker, whether it be warrior duties or any other jobs. In fact, she's so used to working that she's no idea what to do with herself when there's downtime. 'Play' and 'fun' are almost alien concepts to Suki.
