Jack has found books!

OK, so the pirate probably looks a bit weird, leaning back in a chair, his boots crossed on a table as he soaks up Homer's Odyssey and muches on an apple.Bt there he is.

And he's reading the Greek and the English as the pages come up, all very interested in the fact the two languages exist.

"I shall seek her out," Jack promises, and studies Clark again.

The secrets are thick with this one. Really thick.

"What did you say your name was?"

"Clark Kent," he repeats with a brief but odd look at Jack. "So how long ago did you get here?"

"Just a couple of days," Jack says, head still tilted as he studies Clark.

"Flickered in courtesy of the lovely Maria along with one of the Sokkas."

"You look pretty well settled in already." It's said with a small smile. "Has anyone told you about Metropolis yet?"

Beat.

"Wait, Marie?"

"I lay my head where I find it," Jack admits. "And no one has.

"Marie," he confirms. "Interesting girl, she is."

"It's a city south a ways from here, if you prefer city living, what there is of it these days, or if you just want to see what's there." Clark gets the impression Jack probably isn't a city person, but he'll offer the information anyway.

"And yeah. She is," he frowns slightly. "Uh, she still around, do you know?"

"Never took to cities," Jack admits.

But that's not as important as Clark's reaction to Marie.

"I haven't seen her. Is there a problem?"

"No," Clark answers quickly. "No problem. Just a bit of a misunderstanding I should probably clear up with her, is all."

Jack smiles, wryly.

"I could pass on a message?"

Clark shakes his head. "It's kind of complicated. And something I think I should do in person. But thanks."

Then after a moment of thought, "Though if you see her anytime soon, I guess you could tell her I'd like to talk to her, if I haven't already by then."

"That I can," Jack acknowledges. "She rather fascinates me, in truth."

"Thanks." Jack gets another quick smile for that.

"Fascinating, huh?"

"Yeah," Jack says jovially. "Has a secret, but who hasn't?"

Clark snorts softly. "Yeah, that seems to be the way of it."

"Like being at home," Jack admits. "Only I don't kinow them all."

Yet.

"Yeah?" Clark raises an eyebrow. "Where's home for you?"

"The Alethea," Jack replies happily. "Grandest ship you'll ever see."

"The one out back aside, I haven't seen that many ships, so you're probably right," Clark admits. "I guess you're not all that thrilled to be in Kansas, then."

"Won't be pleased to stay," Jack says. "There's always fun to be had in port."

"I'll have to take your word for it." Port? Clark looks marginally amused at that. "There's a lake not too far if you ever find yourself missing water."

"Is there?"

He's getting used to truth from lies with Clark, carefully.

"I may just investigate."

Clark nods. "North east. You could walk it, but it'd be a bit of a hike." For those who can't superspeed.

"A few people staying here have been up there already, so I'm sure you'd be able to find a guide if you don't want to risk getting lost on your own."

Jack's grin breaks open in amusement.

"What's life without risk?"

"Safe," Clark replies almost automatically. "But I guess some people like risk more than others."

"Like freedom over safety," Jack responds quickly. "If I liked safe, I'd never have gone to sea."
