Tobias doesn't like Metropolis all that much, but it's not as bad as it could be. After all, it's not really a... metropolis. Not a bustling one. Sure there are tons of refugees, but that's just a drop in the bucket of what the city is designed to handle.

He's spent the past few days watching Rachel work out. She runs hard, practices gymnastics, and generally pushes herself. He's not surprised by the pushing, but it's new to see her working out her human body. Not that he disagrees with her reasoning, of course.

And it's been nice just to be near her again. He feels like the three years without her were a bad dream.

He's been out hunting, and now he's gliding back to their most recent crash space.

<I've never really understood people,> the pause is almost too short to notice, <who are obsessed with that stuff just because.>

Almost too short. Which means Rachel's smile drops a little and she shrugs. "It's not like I'm going to the gym on my lunch break before a power meeting."

Like, say, her mother.

"It'll help anyway. I'm not looking to get ripped, just toned enough to make movement easier."

<That makes sense,> Tobias agrees. <You I understand.>

Mostly, anyway.

That made her grin, glancing up at him and winking. "Much as anybody does."

Tobias laughs mentally. <Yeah. You're a real woman of mystery.>

Rachel laughed, knees drawn up and arms wrapped around them. "Tobias, I hate to break this to you, but to guys all women are mysteries."

<I'm pretty sure that's just female propaganda,> he objects with a smirk in his tone.

"That you do just means it's working."

<So,> his mental chuckle signals amusement as he changes the subject, <What brought on the sit-ups?>

Rachel just grins at him and shakes her head, resting her chin on her knees while she reached for an apple from a bag she'd brought in from the city. "Getting in shape. This guy says he might coach me in gymnastics and I want to be ready."

<This guy? Not that Dean guy, I hope.> Tobias and dean are not buddies.

Surprised, Rachel blinks and looks at him for a minute before responding. "Does Dean look like a gymnast? That guy is dying to be the poster child for the apocalypse's next Harley Davidson magazine."

<You've got a point there,> Tobias admits. He doesn't feel the need to point out that she didn't actually tell him about this guy.

If Rachel senses any upset about it, she doesn't show it. She's still watching him with a bemused sort of expression. "What's your problem with Dean?"

If Tobias were human, he'd be raising an eyebrow. <The same as yours, I imagine.> It wasn't as if she seemd to like him much either.

Rachel's brows lifted sharply, chin lifting from her knees in a frown.

"He's too much like Marco?"

<Except not ever funny,> Tobias adds helpfully.

She should be annoyed, sticking up for this guy that traveled with her, taught her.

Rachel grins, even laughs a little, amused. "You talked to him for five minutes-- no, I talked to him for five minutes, you said about two sentences to him."

<I said everything that needed saying,> Tobias decides.

Mostly he's mad because Dean was a jerk to Rachel. That's the unforgivable offense in his book.

"You called him an asshole."

She hasn't stopped grinning at him yet but her surprise is still obvious.

<Yeah.>

And he was right about it, too!

Oh, undoubtedly. But,

"I don't remember you ever calling Marco an asshole. And I would definitely remember if you had."

Because there would have been much laughter.

And agreement.

<I suppose that I changed more in those three years than I had figured,> he says with a mental shrug. <And he really did rub me the wrong way.>

Rachel's smile falters at that and she shrugs physically in place of his. Its not the answer that bothers her so much as the reminder - it's only been a few months for her, but three years for him.

So why didn't Dean bother her as much as he had Tobias?

"Good hunting?"

Tobias allows her to change the subject.

<Good enough. The city is underpopulated, so there's quite a wild animal population just out of sight.>
