There's an interesting little group making their way toward the Cooper farm. It consists of three smallish dragons and what looks like an enormous ball of light.
No one's said much on the way back. For Rachel, it's out of frustration. They took it down and that's a victory, but they didn't get the father, the guy that started the whole thing, and that's making her tack it down as a failure.
But she'll mention that when they land.

In angry, defensive, hurt rage.
"Do this to you?! To you?!" Her voice lifts into a shout, completely ignoring the farmhouse or any people outside. "You start all these weird, stupid arguments and you morph human to make a point, you tell me that you've changed and it's your fault that you're not happy with me, and I'm doing something to you?!"

It's a sign of how out of practice he's gotten with human expressions that it takes him any time at all before he smooths his expression into a blank one. He hopes she doesn't notice.

Rachel's hands find his shoulders and she pulls him back. It's funny, in a way she doesn't recognize, that he'd kiss her violently. Her kiss is hard but only in intensity, eyes closed and chin tilted.
There's a height difference between them, but that's always been there - it's easy to ignore.

And for the first time since he arrived in this crazy universe, Tobias allows himself to think that maybe, just maybe, he really can have the most important thing in his life back.
