Sokka is contemplating the road to Smallville. Town! People! And more importantly ... SHOPPING!
But he's not sure they'd accept Fire Nation money here, and that's all he has.
Plus ... Sokka's basically a lazy person. And it's a long way to walk.
There's SRS THINKY going on here, as he stands out the front of the farmhouse with hands in pockets.

Which is why she's wearing her safety belt on the ride into town.
"Okay motorhead," she teases. "Where do you want to go first?"

... okay, the 'main strip' of Smallville consists of a few shacks, a feed storehouse, and a general store. But it's still entirely foreign.
"...the food place!" his stomach offers, with no input from his brain along the way.

(She reminds him of Toph, somehow.)
"What do they have here? Can we bring stuff back to the farm if it's good? Claire might like some of these things. Ooh, what's that pink one?"
Go on. Introduce him to doughnuts. You know you want to, Layla.

Or he would if he knew what a monkey was.

"Do you even know what a monkey is?"
She knew he didn't. She just wanted to see what he'll say next.

Sokka looks shifty.
"I know what a pigmonkey is!"
no subject
No. Layla wasn't walking toward the bread section.

"I think I'll stick with my doughnut," he says, following her anyway. "What do you mean, subtract the pig? That doesn't make any sense."

And since they were at the butcher part of the store Layla pointed at the full pig in the display case.
"See? Pig."

"...it's like half a pigmonkey! That's the most bizarre thing I've ever seen!"

Granted it's cleaned up and everything but...
"That's a chicken. Just a chicken. Nothing else."
She tilts her head at Sokka. "They still taste good though."
no subject
"That's only half a pigchicken! This is SO BIZARRE!"
