There's a flash and a bang and a very confused man with ridiculous hair appears, hovering a few feet above the rubble of a destroyed parking lot.
Hey, when you can cast illusions, you don't need a comb.
"...The hell?" Sylar starts to say, and before he's quite done with the sentence it's President Nathan Petrelli who's making the quizzical exclamation to empty air, settling gently to the ground.
You can never be too careful.

Sylar's enjoying this.

"Then tell me how I know what really caused that accident with Heidi," Sylar says easily-- and floats up half an inch off the ground.

Nathan did pale a little at that.
"....."

"Peter's choice of career. Your turn."
Since he already knows he's the fake, Sylar has no need to be careful about asking questions.

Nathan seemed to relax a little at, and continued to study him, "Been thinking a lot about that, and other things in the months to come. Especially after we saved the city."
Which just gave an indication that the timeline went very different for this Nathan, leaving the other one not happening in his world.

And he's had five years to practice looking appropriately solemn.
Observe.

"Then you let them win. Linderman, Ma, Adam. They were wrong, but you never saw it."
no subject
"Sylar had nothing to do with Linderman. And who's Adam?"
no subject
"Sylar wasn't even in the plans. It was never him. And they never told you? The Company never said anything?"
no subject
Sylar shakes his head.
"I'm getting the feeling things have gone a little differently for me than they have for you."
And he's getting the feeling he knows why, too.
Damn Hiro Nakamura. Damn his little duplicate time-travelling heart.

"After the explosion they would have, sure. But before... you remember what Linderman told us, what he wanted from us?"

While the mun tries desperately to remember which parts of this arc came before Five Years Gone..."I remember that explosion gained me the Presidency, if indirectly."
Because he enjoys irony: "I've almost been tempted to thank Sylar for it. If it weren't for the millions dead, and him along with them."

--found Nathan in time to kill him, wearing the face of his brother; the look in his eyes was priceless, and the sound of Peter Petrelli losing the last shred of control and taking out a city with his incompetence more so--
"--heard it all from Peter. After."
Or covered it up, faked his own death and took on the face of a rising-star politician, fought his way to more kinds of power than he'd ever dreamed.
