There is something entirely different about the area. It is still grassy, but it is the wrong grass. In the wrong places. Also, the sky is different, the trees are wrong, and the air has a different smell to it.
Like mystery creatures that the little yellow thing does not know. It does not smell of any clefairy, jigglypuff, caterpie, ekans, or anything familiar.
The yellow thing takes a few moments to look around for any immediate danger, then to wait and see if the weirdness will fix itself.
It doesn't.
So, it is time to do the obvious thing, which is to wander around and see if anything here is edible.

Dinah steps out on her own, peering out.

Initiating run the hell away and hide procedures!
The yellow thing cowers, trembling, under a scrub of bush as the massive thing lands, roaring, then falls silent. It's just started to venture warily out when a HUMAN pops out.
OMGWTF. Time to run back to the bush!
Not that it's a great hiding place for someone who is BRIGHT YELLOW.
no subject
And that's when she sees the flash of yellow.
"Hang on, I saw something. Going to check it out."
The human's approaching the bush carefully, now.
no subject
It watches, frozen, then scampers out of the bush and behind a rock.
A moment later, a pair of ears rise over the rock, followed by a wide-eyed head.
"...pikaaa..."
no subject
Dinah smiles sweetly, and stops a distance away, crouching down with her hands on her knees.
"Hello, there."
no subject
Well, this human doesn't look like it's got any nets or anything. That's a good sign.
Cautiously it creeps forward. Maybe there's some food to be had.
"pika...."
no subject
"My name's Dinah."
She even does that holding out her hand thing, but there's nothing in it.
no subject
"Pikachu," it informs her.
It continues its cautious movement forward, sniffing at her fingertips.
no subject
"Hello, Pikachu. Was that flash you arriving?"
no subject
"Kapi?" It fwips an ear again. "Pi pi pi, pikachu ka pikapika, chupi kachuuuu pikapikapi." It gestures vaguely.
no subject
"Yeah, we;re all new to this world,"she says, not feeling the least bit - OK, she'll admit it, feeling a little bit weird explaining the situation to a creature she thinks is probably sentient, but possibly doesn't understand her.
"There's a safe place in Kansas, with lots of people. They're nice."
no subject
The yellow thing approves of nice people. Especially nice people that may understand pokemon. It is not sure what a Kansas is, but it will trust Kansas to be okay if there are nice people associated.
no subject
"We could fly you over, if you want.If you trust us."
no subject
OH! Her and the giant flying thi-
Wait...
It looks at her sideways. This isn't some sort of weird human trick to catch a poor defenseless pikachu, is it?
"Pi pi pi..."
On the other hand, it can probably take her and then run away from the giant flying thing. GENIUS.
"Pikachu," it decides, putting its paw in her hands. Let's do this!
no subject
"Let us in, Zinda," she says, and the hatch begins to open.

(Dinah likes this world. She'd like it even more if she could meet any hot studly men, but cute furry yellow things will do at a pinch.)
"It's OK," she says, stepping on to the walkway. "It's just the way in."
no subject
It quickly grooms its fur back down from terror poofage and then sniffs at the inside before following her.
This thing does not really smell like pokemon. It smells like people, and metal, and some other stuff that the yellow thing does not know. This is somewhat cheering- it has never had to fight with things that smell like metal. Metal tends to be pretty still.
"Pika pikachu?"
no subject
"It won't hurt you," louder, "honestly. It's just a plane. To fly back to Kansas..."
no subject
It looks around, padding here and there curiously. So, this thing is called a "plane." It tentatively approves of this "plane." Especially if it is edible.
A quick attempt on nibbling the edge of a doorway proves that this is not, in fact, edible.

Dinah follows the OMG CUTEST THING EVER on to the plane, and stands by the door as it shuts.
no subject
It turns to stare expectantly at the human. This Kansas thing isn't too far away, right?
Maybe it's further inside.

"I have no idea," she says. "Hey, Pikachu. Do you want anything to eat?"
no subject

She heads to the fridge and opens it to scan inside.
OOOH CAKE. HERS!
no subject
OMG FOOD! THERE IS FOOD RIGHT THERE INSIDE.
So it is now scaling the fridge shelves. Destination: cake.
no subject
This is Dinah's cake, that she's pulling away from the refrigerator urgently.
no subject
OK, so that's out. It doesn't want to fight with anyone.
Hey, here's an apple. Apples are pretty good, too. Not as good as cake, but hey. It grabs the fruit and hops out again.
"Pikachu."
no subject
"OK, it likes apples, I think," she tells Babs, smiling again. "And hey - Zinda's been hiding cake from me again."
But then she sits down again on the floor, staring at the little creature.
She wants to keep him.
no subject
Apple's still pretty awesome, though. Definitely better than an empty belly.
no subject
And this is going to be a fun journey to the farm.
no subject
"pikaaaa..." It takes a bite, chewing and savoring, then rolls on the floor in pure bliss.
mmmm, cake.
no subject
"It's good, huh?"
no subject
Darn good!
So, this place is already cooler than back home, just on the basis of people giving cake.
