"You wouldn't," she agrees, wrapping her arms around him and kissing his shoulder comfortingly.

Because this is her Gabriel, and not that other man who shades the memories of Claire and Eden like a malevolent spectre.

It's amazing how much difference seven years and a little bit of rainbow can make.

"Say it in rainbows," he pleads, because they're the absolute truth and what if he changes? Because Claire said that the him she knew was older, and he can feel Inty's certainty but he needs to hear it out loud.

"You wouldn't," Inty repeats softly in a technicolour swirl that goes straight from ears to soul.

He isn't that person.

Right now, he doesn't want to pick up on any hint in the negative. So it's only with relief that he pretty much hugs her living daylights out.

That's one of those things she never gets tired of hearing, even though its truth rings in his smallest movements, even though she could probably forget her own name and still know it.

"How many times will that happen?" he asks her quietly. "How many people are there here who know-- him?"

"The transfers admit of no prediction," she says softly. "There are a number of people who aren't here who know him, and only three who are. But more might arrive. I'm sorry."

A man with dark eyes and a haircut that would have had Virginia immediately reaching for the scissors and grease. At least if he's away from the house, there's a minimal chance of them running into each other and replaying Eden's and Claire's reactions.

"Any chance of someone arriving who really liked me?" he asks without much hope. Honestly, if he ever imagined his future before, it was a daydream mix of salutations.

The quality of her silence should tell him all he needs to know.

"That you isn't you," she explains. Pronouns are confusing, but Gabriel gets it. (He's hers; of course he understands her when she speaks.) "There are people here who like you!"

Clark thought he was reasonably mature, and Lucy-- Intuition is never quite sure about Lucy, but there was definitely a sort of sisterly fondness there.

(Bringing up Clark causes him to go incidentally, Clark Kent, what kind of coincidence is that name, huh? Ha. Ha. ...Hey, it's any thought other than 'other-me is a universally detested enormous bastard'.)

She's not particularly kidding, no, and Clark is very sensitive about people knowing things about him and Gabriel should probably be discreet about this because now Clark doesn't trust Inty because she accidentally let slip some of what she felt from him.
