A suave-looking black man strolls into the farm, looking around assessingly.

"Well, this is nice."

The twelve year old sitting on the ground outside the farmhouse knows neither that he's suave looking nor that he's black.

"Yeah," she says, "it is."

He turns to look at her, somewhat assessingly.

"Good morning, miss."

"Hey," Toph says, not bothering to get up or do anything but sit there.

"Who're you?"

"The Marquis de Carabas." He bows politely. "And yourself?"

She doesn't bow, just tucks her hands behind her head, confident in her greatness.

"Toph Bei Fong," she says. "Earthbender."

"And what might an Earthbender be?"

"A bender of the Earth."

Duh.

The Marquis raises his eyebrows at her.

"Which means...?"

In answer to that, Toph moves a foot along the ground in front of her. A boulder-sized lump of earth shoots into the air and falls down again, returning simply to the ground.

"Ah, I see." He considers this briefly. "Quite a useful talent."

"Yeah it is," she says, and waves a hand to take in both bunker and hangar. "That was mine."

"You built it with your powers?" His eyebrows are in his hairline now. "Impressive."

"It's not 'powers'," Toph remarks. "It's Bending.

"What can you do?"

"Pikachu," agrees a rock.

No, something behind a rock. Something looking at him assessingly.

He steps over and looks down.

"...well, now. I've never seen anything like you before."

"Pi pi pi, pikachu pi pika!" it replies cockily. It is rare and very cute! That is why it is the best!

It grooms its head a bit before hopping onto the rock to pose in all its (foot tall) glory.

"Quite fascinating."

He examines the posing creature dutifully.

"Pi chu pikachu pi?" It sniffs at him. New arrivals are always interesting! It is because they are new!

"The Marquis de Carabas. And you?"

"Pikachu," it replies. It does not have any fancy titles.

"Pikapi!" It does, however, have a paw for hand-shaking.

He shakes its paw politely, then bows.

"Pleased to meet you."

Whoa, bowing! It returns the gesture. Bowing means you are more important!

"Chupikachu, pi pikapi?"

Approximate translation: What's a nice kid like you doing in a place like this?

Ah, yes. Exploring. "Pikachu pika!" it exclaims, trotting off, then pausing to make sure he's following.
