Jack has found books!

OK, so the pirate probably looks a bit weird, leaning back in a chair, his boots crossed on a table as he soaks up Homer's Odyssey and muches on an apple.Bt there he is.

And he's reading the Greek and the English as the pages come up, all very interested in the fact the two languages exist.

"Shay is the captain?" Jack hazards.

"I saw a few boats in New York. Near all destroyed beyond salvation."

"I'm sure Shay would like to think of himself as the captain," she replies with a grin. "I'm also sure that if the damn thing weren't buried in a field he'd have probably managed to sink it by now."

"But she's crewed with love," Jack says.

That's his talent as a seaman, not as a Reader, telling him that.

"I can tell."

"Love and ineptitude. That's my Shay."

Iris chuckles.

"Your Shay?"

Jack looks at her,and shakes his head. "Not your Shay. But you're crew."

"I'm crew?" Iris raises her eyebrows. "If you say so."

"I say it."

Jack grins and leans against the window sill, smiling at her.

"Tight as, the two of you. But not the two of you."

"Right, yeah."

Iris grins back.

"I don't swing that way. I'm a girls' girl, I'm afraid."

Jack laughs with her.

"Oh, that I know for sure."

"I'm that obvious?"

She's cheerful about it.

Her sexuality is something Iris Valentine has never tried to hide.

"It's refreshing," Jack admits.

"On my world, people feel it a thing to bring shame."

"Oh, people feel that way on my world too," Iris admits. "I ignore 'em."

Jack snorts in approval.

"An attitude I can support with all my being," he decides.

"Good to know!"

Jack smiles at her thoughtfully, then offers a hand through the window.

"Jack Hollins is me."

"Iris Valentine," she replies as she shakes his hand, and it's not the name she was born with but it's as much hers now as anything. Jack should be able to relate.

Oh he does.

"Honoured to meet you," he says, meaningfully.

"Conversation is superior to reading at any time."

"Yeah, can say that again," agrees Iris, who's never been particularly much of a reader.

"What do you usually do to relieve boredom?"

It can't possibly be flirting. He knows she's gay.

Iris sadfaces. She misses her drums!

"Couldn't find any."

Jack sadfaces too.

But then perks up.

"We shall have to improvise!"

Oh, Iris likes her some improvising, she does.
