There's a pond! Or a little bit of sea, anyway. It's weird.

Though perhaps not as weird as the big earth bunker. Claire met the girl who made the big earth bunker. There was sarcasm, and lots of suspicious question. Claire doesn't think she's liked much in that quarter.

But now she's nowhere near the big earth bunker nor the house with Sylar-who-will-be in it, and out by the pond, sitting near the edge as she re-reads her book on Evolution.

Mr Muggles is crouching at the edge of the pond, occasionally barking at it.

Sokka was walking. But now he's running.

"CLAIRE!"

Don't worry, Claire! He will protect you from the kraken!

... that's about the size of a shoebox.

WITH HIS SWORD.

"Get!"

Claire pushes the kraken again. GET INTO THE POND, YOU SQUIDLY THING. Mr. Muggles yaps, in agreement.

On hearing her name called, though, she looks over.

"Hey, Sokka," she says, first with frustration and then, "...I don't think you need to attack it with a sword."

SIZE OF A SHOEBOX.

Sokka is giving the kraken a narrow-eyed stare, at least until it disappears into the pond.

"One of those things broke Nooyawk," he informs Claire, still with sword between girl and pond. "...a bigger one."

"A squid ate New York?"

Claire would be able to be fully disbelieving if she didn't have a wet armful of squid-broke dog.

Also if she hadn't fallen through from another world and if Sokka's friend couldn't hit things with rocks bigger than she is.

"He beat up Mr. Muggles, but I think the town is safe."

Sokka nods.

He does not trust the tiny tentacly thing. Backing away from the water!

"It was bigger than the big houses. Jack called it a kraken. I'm pretty sure that's a baby one."

Claire is being backed away from the water by a guy with a sword, talking in all sincerity about how a bigger version of that little squid thing destroyed the whole of New York city.

Her life is so much weirder than that time New York almost blew up.

"I don't think the pond has any really big ones," she says helpfully. "You want to come help give the dog a bath?"

Sokka still thinks Mr Muggles looks like food.

"...sure." Sword goes back in sheath, since Spots doesn't look like coming out after them.

Hey, Claire looks like there was crying recently.

"...he looks like he really needs a bath," Sokka says, with his usual tact. "Can I have your underwear, Claire?"

Mr Muggles isn't the only one that looks like that, now Claire's all covered in salt water and wet dog.

Wet dog she almost drops.

There's no way Sokka just said what she thought he did, right?

"What?"

";alksjdf;laskjf;" Sokka says, only with his arms and legs instead of his mouth.

"It's for a good reason! There's this naked woman! And she won't put clothes on and I don't know what to do and ------- help."

Sokka's normally smooth dark skin is a lovely shade of scarlet.

"So you want to give her my underwear?"

Claire stares, then shrugs. "Lucky for you I stocked up on spares from the town, isn't it?"

Sokka flails a little more.

"Not necessarily yours! Not anyone's! I just want her to wear something and I didn't know who to ask and she said I had to and ---"

Flails a lot more, really.

"Sokka."

Because saying someone's name always calms them down.

"If she needs clothes,she can have some of mine!"

"She won't! She wouldn't wear anything but --" Sokka's flails don't seem to diminish. "-- and we don't have any -- and Katara's not here or I'd ask her to help --"

"And you asked me!" Claire points out. "You can have some. Just stop doing that. You're scaring Mr. Muggles."

Sokka's hands go straight by his sides. SUPER STIFF.

"Sorry, Mr Muggles."

Breath.

"...can you give them to her? She's ... naked!"

"OK," Claire says, trying not to laugh at the sudden stiffness.

"But if I get called a freak for giving random naked chicks my underwear, I'm blaming you."

"You can blame me all you like," Sokka tells her, giving an enormous sigh of relief and deflating like a torn hot-air-balloon with it. "Claire, you're wonderful. You're amazing. You're the most wonderful person here."

SHE SAVED HIM FROM THE NAKED WOMAN.

Claire smiles down at Mr. Muggles, because it's always strange when cute clever guys with swords say that.

"Well, I don't know how long I'll be staying here," she says, bracing herself for a reaction she isn't sure to expect.

"Oh." He glances at her, frowning a little.

"Really? Where are you going?"

"Just away," Claire admits.

"That guy - there's another one who looks just like him here. I don't know that I can stand it."

"I think there's more monsters outside Kansas." He isn't particularly sure exactly what Kansas is -- as far as Sokka knows it's just this farm. "It could be dangerous."

"Kansas is a big place."

Claire knows better, you see.

"There's got to be somewhere I can go. I can't look at these people, Sokka."

He nods, frowning. "You might need someone to protect you," he offers, a little bit hopefully.

PICK MEE PICK MEEEEE.

"Me and Toph could go with you!"

"Really?" Claire asks skeptically.

YAY.

"You don'thave to. This place has a lot going for it."

PLEASE COME, SOKKA.

So does Claire.

"Yeah, but it's boring," Sokka says, grinning at her. "Toph'll love it, I bet. And maybe we'll find my sister, that crazy Firebender thinks she's around!"
