Sam took great delight in frequently asking 'are we nearly there yet?' as they travelled. Then his attention was rather sharply drawn by all the snow and ice around San Francisco.

Then his attention was even more sharply drawn by the sudden storm that picked up, tossing them around. Their landing was ... rather rough. They hit a tree, among other things.

Twenty minutes later, Sam is shivering from the cold as he inspects the engine of the car.
"Why is everything so cold here?" It is, indeed, very cold. San Francisco appears to be not only utterly wrecked, but also entirely deserted and covered in snow (almost up to Sam's knees) and frost. After a moment's staring at the engine. "Guys, we're going to need a bunch of new parts for this thing."

Briefly her eyes dulled a little at the contact, the compulsion tightening as her expression was briefly adoring. But then her blue eyes sharpened again, almost a glow to them. She wanted to spit on her, bite, punch, SOMETHING.

"I wo.... Yes, my lady," she finally replied stiffly. Can't even speak counter to her, but she grabbed the basket from the hobgoblins with some force.

They giggled and danced away from her saying,

"You will learn. All do bow before our Queen."

The Queen briefly clutched her head in pain as she returned to her throne, dangerous anger sparking in her eyes,

"Someone has hurt my Huntress! Find that boy and kill him and the Man in Green who rides beside him!"

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Like hell she would. The only bow was the one she would be holding before aiming an arrow at this witch.

She then turned her head at that declaration. Her heart was suddenly in her throat for a split second, realizing who that had to mean. Man in Green had to be...

"Will!" and Sam. No, no, not going to happen. Now her blue eyes were glowing.

"Don't you dare touch them!" And she quickly tried to grab something to throw expertly at one of the hobs.

The little hob is barely able to tuck at the icicle thrown its way and the Queen in her anger sweeps down again to slap Kate,

"You know them? You will tell me, my little prize. There is power in them, perhaps I should let them live so they become mine. Though the Man in Green will not bow, he's watched over."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Kate staggered back, even as she tried to block it. The shackle felt heavy, too heavy for her to punch though. She blinked, but stayed silent.

It took some effort for her to shake her head. She wondered what she meant by Will being watched over though.

When she didn't answer the Queen glared at her again,

"You will not defy me again, my prize. Complete your task and the Hunt will ride after them, then we shall see."

Then she turns and leaves, the majority of the Court following her except for men of Ice who watch from columns and little hobs who dart about poking at the other chained humans.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
She shook with anger at that. Hoping they get away. Just leave her here, she'll figure some way out. Kate didn't want them to risk their lives for her though.

Not when she might already be lost.

She tried to drop the basket, but couldn't, so she just carried it with her. Tempted to kick the damn hobs away.

"Stop it!" She then went over to some of the other humans. "You don't have to listen to her. Fight back."

Most of their eyes were almost glazed over and they stared at her.

One woman said quietly, "She feeds us and keeps us safe, safe here."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Kate tried to reach for her shoulder, and fervently argued, "It's a prison. And you won't be safe forever here. She doesn't care about us. Look, there's a safe place and warmer, far from here. We can escape."

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
The woman trembled and looked around, "We're safe here, she loves us."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Right, like her slaps are her idea of a hug? She's probably not even capable of the emotion. Can't feel like us."

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
"She's beatiful, we're lucky she sees us."

The woman turns away from the anger in Kate's eyes and one of the ice Knights moves in his setting. Then the woman hides, not wishing to speak to Kate anymore.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Kate sighed with annoyance at this. If this wasn't working... maybe she needed another way to convince them. She eyed the Knight, and then hefted the basket. Keep moving, keep moving. And keep angry. It helped her not think about not feeling cold anymore, even in this stupid outfit. And also moving meant staying awake. If she fell asleep, probably end up like the rest of them here.

She walked the hallways, eyeing the pillars, and cells. She knew where this was, and the idea of leaving was next to impossible. Still, she'd feel better if she could figure a way to steal some weapons.

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
The heads of the Ice Knights turn to watch her as she walks, but they don't step off their columns. While the other slaves go back to their small tasks, making beautiful shimmery things for the Fae who keeps them.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Kate eyed some of the Knights. Hmmm... they had a weapon. What if. She crouched low, and then tried a kick to the kneecap of one of them.

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
It shatters into dangerous icicles and a blank helmet looks down at her as the Knight raises its sword of silver.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ok... right. Now to take out the other one, and try to grab the sword away.

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
The other knee shatters and the Knight stumbles forward, still trying to raise its sword.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
She punched the Knight's elbow, kicked it in the chest, and reached for the sword.

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
The Knight shatters into ice and all the slaves hide in terror. One older man stands up and picks up the jewelery he's working on and throws it at her,

"How dare you!? Fool child, you will bring only trouble upon us, run before we bring her back to us."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Kate neatly caught the jewelry. "Good aim. Try throwing it at them." She then hefted the sword.

"See this? They can't stop us. We can fight back."

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Fool!! She keeps us safe, if you wish to die alone in the cold, die on your own!!"

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't you get it? Didn't you hear? I have friends out there, people I care about, and that ...lady wants to kill them. Don't you have anyone missing you? Anyone you care about? Homes?"

[identity profile] shatter-brought.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
The man all but spits as he meets Kate's eyes,

"We have each other and before she came it was worse, death from the sea and sky, she keeps us safe. If your friends are out there then they will die or join you, why should we care?"

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Kate stared back at that, and the fight seemed to leave her as the sword briefly fell out of her hand. She thought she knew what was going on. That it was like the situation back home somehow, or the prison there. But this was more complicated than that. She still wanted to fight, but also getting tired.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know." Her eyes started to dull a little more.

Maybe it's not that bad just staying here...
