Sam took great delight in frequently asking 'are we nearly there yet?' as they travelled. Then his attention was rather sharply drawn by all the snow and ice around San Francisco.
Then his attention was even more sharply drawn by the sudden storm that picked up, tossing them around. Their landing was ... rather rough. They hit a tree, among other things.
Twenty minutes later, Sam is shivering from the cold as he inspects the engine of the car.
"Why is everything so cold here?" It is, indeed, very cold. San Francisco appears to be not only utterly wrecked, but also entirely deserted and covered in snow (almost up to Sam's knees) and frost. After a moment's staring at the engine. "Guys, we're going to need a bunch of new parts for this thing."

"Oh blast, which ones?"
no subject
"Well, should be an auto parts place somewhere in this tundra, right?"

He comes over a bit closer to Kate,
"'rhaps should get ye 'nother jacket, Kate, that one doesna seem to be keepin' ye warm 'nough."

She added, "Couldn't find any maps, and this would have been fine. Just forgot to check the forecast for the *ice age* out here," she snarked some, trying not to shiver.

Will comes over and gently rubs her arms,
"Also, we'll get ye a warmer jacket, Kate."
no subject
"Sure there's one in a store around here. Thank you, you didn't have to do that."

"Na sure, if I was at 'ome would say someone's cast a spell to make it winter."

Kate glanced around, not liking the look of it, "And depending how suddenly this happened... we might not find a lot of people."

Kate wanted to get the hell out of here, but so far it wasn't looking likely. Not with the shackle still looped on her wrist, and some kind of compulsion to stay and obey. Even as her determined mind continued to fight it. As long as she kept moving or thinking, her mind felt semi-free. The stiller she was, the more... the more she felt like accepting it.

In time she walked forward across the throne room set up in the mess hall of Alcatraz, a place of ice and snow and ran a hand along Kate's face,
"Oh you are so beauitful, my dear child, we shall have to tame you though. Unknot this thread for me until you listen."
Two little hobs come forward carrying a basket the size of one of them full to the brim of thread in colors that seem plucked from the Winter sky.

"I wo.... Yes, my lady," she finally replied stiffly. Can't even speak counter to her, but she grabbed the basket from the hobgoblins with some force.
no subject
"You will learn. All do bow before our Queen."
The Queen briefly clutched her head in pain as she returned to her throne, dangerous anger sparking in her eyes,
"Someone has hurt my Huntress! Find that boy and kill him and the Man in Green who rides beside him!"

She then turned her head at that declaration. Her heart was suddenly in her throat for a split second, realizing who that had to mean. Man in Green had to be...
"Will!" and Sam. No, no, not going to happen. Now her blue eyes were glowing.
"Don't you dare touch them!" And she quickly tried to grab something to throw expertly at one of the hobs.
no subject
"You know them? You will tell me, my little prize. There is power in them, perhaps I should let them live so they become mine. Though the Man in Green will not bow, he's watched over."
no subject
It took some effort for her to shake her head. She wondered what she meant by Will being watched over though.
no subject
"You will not defy me again, my prize. Complete your task and the Hunt will ride after them, then we shall see."
Then she turns and leaves, the majority of the Court following her except for men of Ice who watch from columns and little hobs who dart about poking at the other chained humans.
no subject
Not when she might already be lost.
She tried to drop the basket, but couldn't, so she just carried it with her. Tempted to kick the damn hobs away.
"Stop it!" She then went over to some of the other humans. "You don't have to listen to her. Fight back."
no subject
One woman said quietly, "She feeds us and keeps us safe, safe here."
