(no subject)
There is a red girl in black leather crouching beside the pond/lake at the back of the farmhouse. She trails a single finger through the water, but is always quick to pull back when a tiny, baby tentacle looks like it's about to reach for her. But she seems to be enjoying herself and that may even be a slight smile curling her lips.
So. Red girl, poking water.
Come poke back?
(OOC: apologies for extreme lameness and disappearance. F'REALZ. :( )

She likes freezers. They're like train tickets to everywhere, when they work. She was so happy when they started being widely used!
And sometimes they have ice cream in, even.
Snow likes ice cream.
--we were talking about Penance, weren't we? No, we hadn't gotten there yet. Freezers! Snow was at one. Now she's at the pond, giving Penance her very best smile. She doesn't know what kind of spirit the strange red girl is, but she's eager to find out and make friends!
no subject
Of course, ice cream is infinitely better...
But friends are good!
Penance looks up after a moment, blinking pale blue eyes at the newcomer. And slowly, that tiny smile returns.
Lucy, Claire, Toph, and Sokka have been teaching her how to be sociable... ish.
no subject
(Occasionally they even give you ice cream. If you're nice.)
(Snow is almost always nice.)
Now, lessee... new person. Not a fire spirit or a blood spirit, despite the colour. Perhaps waving to her will help figure out this grand mystery!
no subject
Let's try it!
...no? Well, at least it shows that she's friendly.
no subject
Mostly that she likely really is a spirit, because if she were human she'd be speaking.
Probably.
Snow smiles.
Hmm, now's the part where she should say her name. People always seem to have trouble with it, but spirits tend to get the idea. So! Scooping a handful of water out of the lake, Snow pets it and hugs it and smiles a soft, brilliant smile at it, until it freezes and separates into a little pile of perfect white flakes as soft and brilliant as the smile. A tilt of her head, and she tosses them into the air, gesturing to herself and then to Penance.
Sparkle-of-light-through-tiny-ice-crystals has just introduced herself, strange spirit! Your turn!
no subject
Pretty.
Penance watches the flakes fall to the ground with a happy little smile, utterly approving of ice crystals that sparkle with light. But then she's being gestured at. And here's the part where Penance should be saying her name, which people always seem to have trouble with... namely because Penance has trouble with it.
Headtilt?
no subject
Hmm.
Dilemma.
Strange red possibly-spirit, your name is now... Thorn.
Which Snow demonstrates by sculpting a delicate rose out of more borrowed water, tapping the base of a sharp little thorn with her fingertip, and then holding it out, smiling all the while. Present! Naming-present, at that.
no subject
And names, too.
But pretty!
Still smiling, Penance hesitates before slowly reaching out. She wants the present, but she wants it enough to be worried about breaking it.
no subject
Thorn is a bit... pointy, it's true. Hence the name.
Snow holds up a finger in the universal sign of I has an IDEA!, and takes the rose back for a moment, bestowing a solemn kiss to the translucent petals. Perhaps her breath seems to shiver and glow in the air around the flower for a moment, and perhaps it doesn't. Either way, she's much more confident about handing it over this time. See? No problem, Thorn! Snow's got it covered.
no subject
Penance still looks a little nervous about it all, though. She presents her hand, palm up, and hopes Snow is careful of her fingertips as she sets the rose down.
no subject
But either way, she doesn't end up touching Thorn's sharp fingers. Only the rose does, and it seems to be fine so far.
no subject
Penance is so happy right now. This is better than ice cream! She beams at the rose and tilts her head to get a better look at the rose, her hand twisting around to watch it sparkle in the light.
no subject
She's happy to have made Penance so delighted, too. The smile is an easy way to pick up on that. Snow's smiles are obvious.
no subject
She'd give her a present, too, but it would most likely end up shredded.
...wait...
Penance now has a plan.
no subject
This must be rewarded.
Apparently, rewards for smiling at Snow include Snow sitting down a little ways away, wrapping her arms around her knees, resting her chin on same, and beaming some more.
Who said they had to be complicated things? Fft.
no subject
no subject
Perhaps Thorn is a once-off spirit. Snow's met a few of those! And presumably there's a once-off spirit for "being pointy and cutting things a lot", just like there can be for everything else.
Extra beam! Snow's proud of having given Thorn the right name!
no subject
...yes?
no subject
YAYFRIENDS.
Snow loves friends! She has TONS.
...
She can't find any of them lately, but NOT TO WORRY. The fact that half the world has been stepped on by large scary things is TOTALLY EXPLAINABLE.
...
Yeah.
Possibly the drifting-off-pensive-look thing that Snow's got going on here is not so much of the good.
But after a moment she blinks, looks at Penance, and smiles brightly again. New friends, after all! Here-friends. Red-and-sharp-and-pointy friends. Interesting friends.
:D
no subject
Well, really :)!
Setting her rose down carefully (which really consists of letting it roll off her palm carefully), Penance leans forward over her knees to set a finger gently against the dirt.
Dangerously pointy fingertips are excellent for drawing pretty pictures in the mud.
no subject
Snow is utterly captivated. She even leans forward a little and brushes her hair out of her eyes, the better to see the picture happen.
Careful, of course, not to get near Thorn's dangerously pointy bits.
no subject
Sokka always has a smile for the red girl.
"Brought you chocolate. And apples."
She gets a choice!
no subject
Penance's face lights up and whether it's for the food, the company, or both is entirely up to the view. Beaming, she holds out a careful finger for Sokka to spear the apple on.
no subject
"You look happy to be back. Are you glad we stayed?"
He doesn't really expect a response, but he likes talking to Penance.
no subject
OM NOM NOM.
no subject
"I talked to the other-me's sister the other night. She seems really nice. Want another apple?"
Here!
"And I think Claire's getting better at being around the Sylars. I'm not, though."
no subject
Penance stays crouched by the pool, eating, but looks up at Sokka occasionally while he speaks. After a while, she starts to nod intermittently.
She is ttly paying attention and TOTES understands everything he's saying.
No rly.
no subject
"Claire likes it here, though. She made cupcakes while we were away -- here, I saved you one of those, too."
He brought her a whole basket of food.
"I have got to remember these foods for when I get home."
no subject
Ya rly. :D
Penance beams and is polite enough to finish her apple before reaching for the cupcake.
Oh wait--
WAIT WAIT WAIT, SOKKA, DON'T GO ANYWHERE! She's been waiting for you to come back and she's been hiding from Claire and Toph and there is a REASON!
And, apparently, the reason is up in that tree she just shot up.
no subject
Oh, up the tree? Sokka can totally climb trees. FOLLOWING!
no subject
Anyway, she finds a way to stop him.
HERE, HAVE A PAPER SNOWFLAKE, SOKKA!
She made it for youuuuu.
no subject
...it's a pretty paper thing that's made with geometry. ANGLES and if he folds it the holes line up and ZOMG BEST PAPER THING EVER!
