(no subject)

Nhim certainly hopes that this is the right farm. She's visited several on her way here with no luck, and the deer she carries in her maw is starting to taste a bit off. The dragon lands in an ungainly fashion at the Cooper farm, dropping her catch with a thud and peering into the house's upper story window. "Hello?" she calls, experimentally, then mutters to herself, "I hope no one has those damned sticks again, if this isn't the right farm..."

Oliver frowns at the wound on her leg. "I have a minor ability to speed healing and prevent infection in others. It would please me to offer my services to you - not only please me, but," wryly, "aid you, I do hope."

"I'll admit to never having tried it on a--" creature, he had been about to say, "on someone as large as yourself, and warn that the healing generally takes around an hour or so each day for...oh, a wound like this...four days, perhaps, to take full effect."

Oliver's face, already serious, sobers further. "Forgive me if I pry, but how did you receive such a wound?"

Oliver is more bold in his choice of conversation with a dragon than he would be with a human.

Oliver shakes his head, expression sympathetic. "Dreadful business.

"A mage, you said?" There's no poor reaction to the word - he's speaking of another world's magic-users, after all, not his own.

"A dragon and an elf," Oliver repeats, amused. "It's a wonder you could even see him."

Oliver quickly laughs off his mistake. "Oh - in my world elves are known as little people, along with sprites and boggins and such."

No Tolkien-inspired elves for Fremmanland!

"It's been some time since I thought of children's stories...butterfly wings, I think."

[identity profile] sworntoalostgod.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Musingly, "I've visited some families - country folk, back in Fremmanland - that left food out for the little people though they appeared at church every Churchday. Belief can be a complicated thing."

Oliver chuckles and drags himself back to the conversation at hand. "That would be one way to verify existence, certainly."

"Not the best start of a fast friendship, I'd think."

He reflects back to their previous conversation. "Regrettably, it seems the polar bears have moved on. I can Call any beast within a day's journey, and I've summoned none."

"I'm certain she will appreciate it." Oliver is sure of no such thing, but he'll certainly act like he is.

"She has been quite generous in letting so many strangers congregate here."

Oliver knows Lucy is no demon, but that doesn't mean he has a particular urge to keep discussing her.

"If you will excuse me, I shall go fetch a chair so that I may fully center myself before I start my healing magic."

And thus, Oliver goes inside. He passes a blonde young girl walking outside, in a jacket a few sizes too big for her.

The girl stops and gapes at Nhim.
