Two-Parter Post!

Inty is in her and Gabriel's bedroom, brushing her hair (it's a novelty! It used to brush itself!). If you're doing something interesting somewhere in the rest of the Cooper house, she might just swing by and poke her nose in. She does that.

"Do you ever have dreams of your own?" Steph asks, curiously.

And then, suddenly, she blushes (Dream-Steph's blush is a little cartoonish, the way her whole face is suddenly coloured red, but that's what it feels like) and in a blink Dream-Sokka, the car and the landscape is all gone.

"...what if the dreams are private?"

"I used not to, when I was abstract, but now I'm human I sometimes do--"

Inty blushes back! Even her rainbows take on a distinct reddish tint.

"I try to leave when that happens. Sometimes it even works."

"Nothing happens anyway," Steph insists, quite red-faced, "because it's only a dream so it doesn't count."

That's her story and she's sticking to it.

(From behind a tree, Dream-Sokka winks at Inty.)

"...do you mean you sometimes get stuck? In someone else's private dreams?"

"I did once! I hid somewhere where private things weren't going on."

Blushblushblush.

Also, because Inty sometimes lacks the subtle: "The person that Sokka is in your head just winked at me."

"...Sokka's not in my head," Steph lies promptly, if unconvincingly.

No more talking about Sokka plz, says Steph's thoughts, because D:.

Inty raises her eyebrows at Sokka-behind-a-tree, but forbears to comment.

Being human seems to be all about the obvious lies.

Instead, Steph just gets a small, friendly smile.

It really is good to see her!

"He's just a really good friend," Steph explains seriously, and she actually believes it, too. "I hope he doesn't get shot again."

Cos getting shot is lame.

She slings an arm around Inty's shoulders and grins at her, and they're walking down the twisty undersea road again, but without the hurry.

"I'm nearly there."

"Nearly there is good," Inty confirms. "I hope he doesn't get shot, too."

"Inty?"

Steph hugs her.

"I'm glad you're here."

Or as here as she is.

"Me too."

She hugs back.

"Things are strange. There's another Gabriel coming."

She doesn't know how she's going to deal with two!

"Another Gabriel?" Steph blinks, wide-eyed. "Like there's two Sokkas? -- three Sokkas?"

Nod! "At least it's not the one everyone's afraid of. He feels younger than that. Older than mine, though, by a few years."

Inty wrinkles her nose.

"But... I love Gabriel, and now there's two of him. It's strange. Being human makes everything complicated."

"But he's different, isn't he?" Steph looks thoughtful.

She hadn't been particularly attracted to the red Sokka. But then, she's not attracted to any Sokkas anyway so that's okay omg shut up.

"He's not the one you love, if he's a different one. Like twins, right? It's not very complicated... is it?"

She doesn't know for sure.

"He's the same person, but he's not," Intuition explains. "All the same reasons why I love him as an abstract are there, but all the same reasons why I love him as a human--" and yes, she's blushing now, thanks for asking-- "mostly aren't."

"Oh."

Steph looks thoughtful, and for a moment she's as rainbowy and glowing as Inty, and the whole dream is sparkly.

"I've never been an abstract. I only know human stuff."

Inty giggles.

"You took my colours," she says, running her fingers through the fading sparkles of Steph's hair. "They look pretty on you."

"They're pretty on you," Steph returns, grinning. The colours come back for a moment, happy and bright, and then drift away.

Steph likes being normal, too. She's a little bit proud of it, being a superhero without powers.

(For a moment, she has a cape again.)

"I bet the Gabes will know which one you love."

Blush!

"Mine already does," she confides with a grin. "And the other-- he's never met me; he won't love me like concrete people do, nor I him."

Shrug.

"It'll all work out, I think."

And that's some very human optimism for you.

"Things usually do," Steph says, but her tone isn't as firm as it always have been, and there's an explosion in the distance again, silently, and the people from the gas station are screaming. "In the end. I hope."

Inty stubbornly fails to listen to the screaming.

Sometimes, she's found, when she ignores things, they sulk so much they go away.

Possibly this will work here.

"Quite a bit of the time," she confirms.

"Stuff's really bad," Steph says sadly, sitting down on a bench in the town square of Gotham, looking at the superheated rubble.

"...but it's getting better already, right? We're here, and you found Gabe, and I have my friends, and we're making it better.

"It'll be okay in the end."

"Everything's okay in the end," says Inty absently; she takes a longer view of ends than most people.

"We'll make it be," Steph says, assured.

"...before we go."

They were only a year in Eden; Sokka says only a little more than that at the apartments. Steph's half convinced they'll never be anywhere for longer than that.

"The transfers admit of no prediction," says Inty, shrugging.

"But there are none in Kansas, in nor out. Someone made it that way."

"I can't stay in Kansas. I'm..."

Dream-Steph turns to Inty, and looks embarrassed.

"...gonna find out what happened to my daughter. I'm gonna."
