Clark is not nervous. Not at all. That pacing he's doing outside Chloe's apartment building? Totally not nerves. It's just a second date and the first one was the one he was nervous over. This one should be a breeze.

He just needs a minute.

Finally, after taking a quick look around to make sure no one's watching, he takes a deep breath and speeds up to her apartment, knocking lightly on the door.

It's hard to not just walk in.

It occurs to Clark suddenly that they're outside. In public ...despite the fact they're the only two people around for miles (he knows, he listened).

It also suddenly occurs to him where, exactly, Chloe's hands are. His own tighten around her waist, though under her shirt now.

"Uh, Chloe?"

He wishes that sounded more confident than a ragged whisper.

She blinks, almost as if coming out of a haze as she looks up at him. There's a very happy smile on her face as well.

"Clark?"

"Uh," he swallows thickly and reaches a hand up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "We should slow down or something. Shouldn't we?"

Chloe shrugs, looking at him in earnest. You only live once, in her opinion. And with all of the recent chaos, she doesn't want to miss any opportunities.

"Should we?"

"I think, uh, yeah. Maybe."

Unsurprisingly, Clark does not look or sound convinced of this decision.

"That's not exactly very convincing, Clark," she responds, pecking at his lips as she talks.

"I know, it's just, you hardly know me," he replies between light kisses. "I don't want to take advantage of you."

"You're not if you you have my consent," she promises, looking up at him wide eyed. "Clark, the world nearly ended for me just a few weeks ago. I can't help it if I don't want to take things slow."

Dammit, Chloe, that's logic.

Still, Clark looks conflicted. It might say something, however, that he hasn't moved his hands yet. "We should at least go somewhere ... not outside."

Chloe beams up at him. "With your super speed, we can totally be back at my apartment in a flash, can't we?"

He smiles back. Enthusiasm is catchy. "Of course we can. It's not like I get tired."

Pause.

"Well, not very easily, anyway."

"Cool," Chloe replies, leaning upward to kiss him again. "Very cool."

"Yeah," he replies and then, well, there's more kissing.

After a moment, "So, we should go."

Chloe giggles, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. "What's the point of having my own personal superhero again if he's not going to chauffeur me around the globe?"

"I told you, I'm not a hero. Chauffeur," he shrugs, "I can maybe live with."

Clark doesn't waste any time in picking her up again and getting them back to the front door of her apartment in almost record time.

Not a hero yet, anyway. She's totally not giving up on him.

"Someone's eager," Chloe mutters when they come to a stop in front of her door. She smiles up at him, running a hand through his hair. "Gimme a moment and I'll fish out the keys."

He raises an eyebrow, setting her down on the floor. "We can always go back if you'd prefer I take my time."

"It's a joke, Clark," she replies with a laugh, digging in to her purse until pulling out a set of keys. "This is totally fine."

"I know," he says softly, smiling down at her and watching her carefully. "Not like I'm the impatient one, anyway."

She turns around after opening the door, staring at him.

"I'm not impatient!" Chloe protests. "I'm just..."

There are certain words that would fit in perfectly there. As the mun is typing this in class, she chooses to let Clark fill in the blank himself.

The mun should really know better than to leave things up to Clark.

"Uh huh," he replies, vastly amused. "I hate to think what you would have done if I hadn't happened along."

Laughing, "Hey!"

"What?" He teases, following her into the apartment. "You might not be safe to unleash onto mankind."

She closes the door behind the and locks it.

Then, Chloe tilts her head and smiles curiously at him. "Is that so, Kent?"

"Maybe? I mean, I'm fairly certain that when you want something, it's pretty hard to dissuade you from going after it."
