So you might have noticed there's a big ol' robot parked out back of the bunker at the Cooper farm. It's large and green and looks very battered.

Approach it, and one of two things happens.

Either you came during the day, and Val Bell is sitting on its head with a good book and a bowl of apples, or you came during the evening or night and it is apparently deserted. 'Apparently' being the key word.

What'll it be?

"I'm watching it for Neil. Seen him around? He's from the future. Got an eyepatch. Stevie's fixing up this hunk of scrap for him."

"Haven't seen him, no." Marley feels he'd remember a man with an eyepatch. "Mind if I join you up there?"

"Sure."

She extends a tentacle down to Marley's level and makes a little platform on the end of it.

"Hop aboard. I don't suggest climbing this thing. If it gets any brokener than it already is, Neil's gonna kick my ass."

Marley steps onto the platform, lightly (he worries, on some level, that the platform will break).

"Yeah, it looks like it might need, er, some repair."

The platform does not break. Val hauls him quite smoothly up to the mech's head and extends her tentacle-chair into a tentacle-couch, then dumps him in the Marley-sized space beside her.

"Just a bit, yeah."

"What's it for, anyway?" He suspects it's for fighting, but a massive bipedal robot doesn't seem very practical.

"Apparently it's what they use in the future instead of tanks."

"I'm sure that's not practical," Marley says, thoughtfully.

"Well, they've had three hundred years to come up with a better idea."

Doubtfully: "I suppose so."

Shrug.

"Anyways. Did I tell you about the creepy flesh castle?"

(She didn't. It's only been a day or two since she got back.)

"Creepy flesh castle?"

That would be a 'no.'

"There was a... thing. Some guy built a church out of body parts. A couple buddies went out and smashed it flat, but he got out. Apparently he's planning to build another one. We're gonna go wipe him sometime soon. If the tin can's fixed by then, Neil's coming."

"Who's 'we' in this context?"

"Me, Luce, Luce's friend Rachel, and Rachel's buddy Tobias. He's a hawk."

"... Well, yes, he would be," Marley says, absently. "I could come along, I suppose. Or there's the Teleporter-Fluffball, or Fog-Guy, or Wolf-Guy, though he may be all the way in New York."

"Okay, I was with you until Wolf-Guy. Who?"

"Taller than me, shaggy dark hair, spent half his time sulking and the other half peering wistfully at the full moon?"

"Oh. That guy."

"That guy, yeah."

"Well, I'm pretty sure Rachel's running the show, so you'd have to ask her. She comes by the farm sometimes. Blonde. Bitchy, but not as bitchy as me."

"You're not bitchy."

Beat.

"I mean, not always."

Val cracks up.

"Sometimes you're very, very nice!"

Snicker.

"Key word: sometimes."
